[#673789]

I'm going on an unexpected alps trip on Friday and haven't been riding big stuff for a while. I had a 'hard freeride' ride a couple of weekends ago which caused blisters under my clauses, which have now fallen off to leave no hard skin at all.

I remember my amputee cousin putting skin hardening cream on his stump to prevent blisters; anyone know what it is?

Take some surgical tape and tape the soft parts up. That's what the guys did in t'Alps last week.

I've found if you don't have the calluses built up already, then next best is to just look after your hands to stop the skin breaking up and blistering. So at the end of each day moisturise them. If you know you have real problems, then get some mepore tape (think that's what i mean, the stretchy micropore stuff) and tape your hands up the start of each day.

I used to use surgical spirit to toughen up my fingertips back in my musical instrument playing days.

In a single run of cwmcarn last weekend I managed to go from calloused hands to having blisters with the tops ripped off. Rim tape kept them comfy the next day, it actually did a better job than did micropore last time I used that. It seems to have enough stiffness to stop it just bunching together and sliding down my thumb.

The tape idea sounds good, I have no idea where to get surgical spirit!

used to offer the bottle of surgical spirit to all the new lads at the marquee firm and they would just look at us funny, by the second day they were bathing their hands in the stuff in the morning

Do what Badly Drawn Boy does and cover your fingers/hands in superglue.

Plunge hands one after the other into a tray of heated sand. Saw that in a Bruce Lee film, so it must work.

go climbing on gritstone, can't hold a cup of coffee after that but it toughens the skin up no end.
