[#1441972]

So I waited for part 2 to see what they said about the bastid light. Nothing as it turned out.

I'm disappointed to see that they decided not to review what may be the biggest selling bike light of 2009/10...... presumably because the mag stands to gain nothing from its inclusion. I suppose ST is like every other mag when it comes to reviews.
😐

Sorry if this has been done already.

I must admit, whenever a light test has popped up in the mag I've looked to see what it says about the DX P7.

Nothing.

KingTut - you can't deny that it may be the biggest selling light of 2009/10.

Just like you can't deny that it may not be too.

Eh?

Why not? May be. I know 5 people who bought one - I don't know anybody who bought something else 😉

I was a bit surprised as well- no troutelight, no dx light. Maybe testing them would have upset some of the bigger names?

would seem fair to review it so her eit is for you

Excellent value for money chinese Aldi light. Bright as many of its competitors at a fraction of the cost but you get what you pay for ...low quality internals, battery life issues but if you want to put a £50 light on your £3k bike then this is for you

Happy now?
EDIT: I dont own one but have seen one used seems good for the price but will it last as long as others? Buy cheap buy twice?

More like buy cheap, buy twice and still have £100 quid in your pocket.

Jeepers, didn't know the kit you put on your bike had to be price linked to the cost of your bike 😯

Buy twice and still be saving £150? Same warranty. When it dies (out of warranty) get the latest version which will be probably be better anyway and be happy in the knowledge that you've renewed your warranty and not still using the £250 light that may still be working but not as good as this years crop.

LED performance is moving on so fast tyhat there is little point in spending loads on a system that will last 5 years.

Perhaps you could get a sense of humour with the money you saved?
Did you need a wink to get it was tongue in cheek?
Depends if you actually want more lumens and in all honesty 1000 and 8 hour run time on high is plenty for me for next 5 years

I n reality if i had to buy a light with no batteries etc I would get the bastid but it is cheap and cheerful

presumably because the mag stands to gain nothing from its inclusion.

Are you being serious?

I suppose ST is like every other mag when it comes to reviews.

and only reviews products that are sent for grouptests.

No conspiracy, no cash in brown paper bags just how it is.

... errr, yes.

and only reviews products that are sent for grouptests.

OK. In fairness having a quick look at the article it does say that only mid to high end lights were tested, and so a light costing a mere £50 was obviously not going to be in that league even if it does offer massively higher value for money.

It would still have been interesting to see how it would have compared, although it may have embarrased/peed off some other companies.

So, do companies send their stuff in on spec, in the hope that it'll be reviewed, either by itself, or as part of a possible grouptest?
Or do you send out requests for equipment?
Considering the furore that surrounded both these lights this winter it might have been useful to at least have a comparative note of their performance. Even if it meant dipping into the slush fund, or borrowing one.

They have got a prototype 4 led Troutlet and as Matt commented on a previous thread it will get a review when it has been used a fair bit .

I hope that doesnt mean next winter 😕

Does it matter if the mags review the bastid or not? Imagine how long the Lead times would get if every bugger wanted one...

Not that it matters realy as it looks like the Bastid is Dead! long live the NEW BASTID!

I'm sure there are reviews on the way for it...

The new bastid is not measureing up very well against the old one .

here is a comment from a guy on CPF

The 900 beam looks better too.
The new P7 reflector is too wide.
And the oval xpe optics don't add any throw.
For 50$ more you get a waterproof battery, more weight, less throw, less runtime.

^ What I was thinking but not typing. Seems short-sighted to pretend it doesn't exist.

i cant see the problem they had 4 lights that they had ridden enough to form a decent review so wrote it . yes they didnt include the bastid but they also didnt include lots of others. if they were to test everything people would be complaining the mag was too heavy rather than the usual lightweight moans 😉 cant please all the people all the time

@ Trout - sounds great.... I figured the 2XPE "pods" were there to add some sort of width to the beam rather than throw the normal astid (Much as I love it) is basically a nice bright hot spot with a bit of spill...

The only feature I really like the look of if I'm honest is the remote switch, a regular single P7 Bastid with that switch and no flashing mode would be excellent
