Would somebody be kind enough to post up the grid ref. for the bench with the huge view at Macclesfield Forest please?
I'm trying to tell somebody via email how to get to it but 'turn right at Death by Grinding' etc. just isn't working.
Thank you

Thank you MBMcM. I'll send her there and if it's wrong, I'll say they took the bench way.

does anybody know where saddlers way is on teggs nose? how can you include that in a ride of the forest are and upto charity lane? the forest itself is pretty pants, it could be so much better on its own, but add it into a bigger loop and its not bad at all.....never ventured teggs nose way but heard saddlers way is suppose to be alright whereever it is!

Saddlers way begins at Teggs nose car park. As you drive in the carpark splits in to two. If you carry straight on where it splits the path drops down & you're on Saddlers way. Its a bit rocky to begin, then fast cobbles the rest of the way with a gate in the upper part.
It can get quite greasy!

The grit & gears route isn't bad as it takes in most of what is on offer, then you can just chop and change the bits you like.

Cheers how long does sadlers way go on for before that tough steep road climb to charity lane? Is probably go through macc forest to the gate then turn left at the climb and head to teggs nose up saddlers way then descend it...guessing it will be slighty simliar to charity lane just not as rocky

Saddlers Way is only short, also because it is smooth & fast you're not on it very long.

The steep climb - Is that from the forest gate, turn right, short section of road climbing, then righht on to charity lane?

If so, turning left would take you down a rocky narrow track which is good, better going down than up as it can be tricky for traction climbing. You then reach a fork in the road, turn right and you get to the bottom of Saddlers way or turn left at the fork and it takes you round the back of the reservoirs on to the langley road, just near the st dunstan pub.

AS far as I know that is about it for that side.

Yep that's the gate and climb to charity lane....spot on

So if i go left I go down a rocky track, then how do I get to the start of sadlers way? Or will this rocky track lead me upto it and to teggs nose car park? Cheers for the help!

Sorry don't know how I missed that...so it brings you at the bottom of saddlers way, is that ok to climb then? I'll probably just climb it and descend it too!

Yes, look on this linkclick The bottom of saddlers way is number 2, the forest gate is just after number 4 (hacked way lane).

A good little run I do is along the road to teggs nose car park, down saddlers way, round the back of the reservoirs on to the langley road, from there back up to the leather smithy up one of the forest tracks to the forest gate, left, rocky descent, back round the reservoirs - road home.

Nice small loop, fun but not over the top.

Cool cheers , I'll have to have a look at the Rocky descent, then up the road to the start of the saddlers way.....so if I choose the left fork after the Rocky descent does that take me straight up to the teggs nose car park?

Mono - if I turn left at the gate out of the forest it looks like it's just road? You say it drops down to a rocky track but all I can see on the map is road after the forest gate?

Watch this [url=

From number 4 (on the map) there are two gates which lead from the forrest to the road. The lad in the video goes from the lower one, left down hacked way lane. It starts road then you turn down the trail at a farm - You can't miss it.

In the video he turns left at the fork, taking him around the back of the reservoirs. He misses out saddlers way, if he had turned right at the fork he would have been at the bottom of it.

Cheers mono - so basically I just follow his video if i want to cone out of the forest turn left, down the Rocky bit, and go left like he has to go around the reservoirs to that pub you mentioned? Id then climb upto teggs nose car park and descend down sadlers way back to the fork and climb back up the same rocky bit back upto the steep.road section to charity lane? Does that sound about right?

Erm, kind of. If you wanted to go from the forest gate & take in Saddlers way I would go left at the gate, down the descent then fork right, cycle up saddlers way, turn around, back down and follow around the back of the reservoirs.

It is a better way to start on Saddlers way, then you don't have to come back on yourself.

If you ever want showing just let me know.

Cool I may just do that suggestion then, I'll be heading up cat and fiddle after and onto derbyshire bridge that's why I was gonna do the road up to teggs nose car park then descend sadlers then climb the short burst upto charity lane....but i think i know in my head now where to go! If you fancy a ride let me know

So it will be macc forest, gate, turn left, down Rocky track, either road up or sadlers way up to teggs nose car park, then descend sadlers way, short climb road upto charity lane, bottom o oven, cat fiddle, and then derbyshire or danebower back around to forest, should all link in ok really as long as I don't get lost teggs nose way

Cheers mono do you have an email adress can drop you a mail? Where you look left and right left and right, im guessing left takes you back up to forest up the steep short climb to charity? And the right which you took takes you around the reservoirs and back to the car park you started?
