It's OK, I'm off now anyway.
bl***y marvelous ๐
But I am biased
It is my local and has been since biking began ๐
Might be able to do a Tour d Mabie if you fancy meeting up?
If you made it a Thursday you could tag on a night ride, slow, don`t go far but we have off piste fun ๐
I think its great. Not really technical, but some great fast bits, and the woodland is nice.
If you get the chance to tag along with Trekster you won't regret it.
Yeh its pretty good. The darkside is good fun and theres some ok jumps on the 4x track too
cheers, thinking about staying at Marthrown for my stag in late Feb, but may come down for a recky before then. Will let you know if I do, the dark side loks a bit beyond my technical capabilities tho. is the Phoenix trail still worth a shot?
oh and how much is bike hire there? as there is a bunch of us coming down it may be easier to rent.

Depends on how much ale you sup ๐
But I think so. I can spend 4hrs or so pootling around all my little fav bits. Get dizzy going round in circles and up the same hill 3or4 times ๐ ๐ ๐
Ae and Dalbeattie are only 1/2hr away anyway
Short but fun. Not done the darkside but though.
I stopped off at Mabie on the way to manchester last week. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Its not the longest by a long way, but the trails were in good condition, nice and flowing and a good mix of most things.
It doesn't feel like the GT black where its long zigzag climbs then long long decents and repeat. Nor does it feel as twisty as some sections of Kirroughtree or have as much of the rocky steps of Kirroughtree. It just seemed to flow between the sections quite well. Sometimes I feel it maybe misses a few small drop offs / little jumps to spice up some of the sections, but it wouldn't need to be massive stuff. I'd go back again over going to GT anyway.
Oh, and before you ask .... tyres ... I had Conti Gravity 2.3's ๐
Really nice trail with some nice off piste bits - Dalbeattie just along the road is also very good.

A lot of people have not been around long enough to know that there has been a trail at Mabie for around 20 odd years. This being the 4/5th version. It was last "upgraded" at the start of the 7Stanes project. You have to remember that was nearly 10yrs ago and jumping was the domain of downhillers. GT seems to get constant tweaking by the in house team over there, a luxury Mabie/D&G area does not have.
Coming soon though is an upgrade and re-opening of the Ridge section ๐
And also has some very good off piste ๐Really nice trail with some nice off piste bits - Dalbeattie just along the road is also very good.
Nice, but not as cool as GT. Look forward to going back up there though.
its ok. the 4x track was fun even the missus got 'air' a few times.
bike shop assistant was rubbish, i had more mechanical knowledge - had to set up mine and the missus bikes myself. they wouldnt lend any tools to do this either. forced them to lend me the shock pump as the fool didnt believe that the shock was in need of of few PSI despite bottoming out when i sat on the saddle!. as hire bikes they were ok. fox forks were gash but might have needed a service dawg frame was pretty good. the missus loved her kona full suss thingie with toras.
Pity about the hiring bikes experience - I contacted them a few months ago about hiring a bike for my son, they were very unhelpful, it was almost as if they didnt want to hire the bikes out. (we ended up just taking his bike as they wouldnt let me book something, just said that it 'should' be available on the day we came...)
Seems a shame as the few times I have used the cafe they have been friendly enough
well I am all booked for my stag in February, hopefully the weather will be OK, could be bloody freezin in that roundhouse though?
How long does it take to get round the red at Mabie, 17km isnt it? We will have a mix of non bikers and experienced, is the green/blue advisable as an initiation for the novices, or will they be ok on the red?
i like mabie. I think it's a better place than Glentress. The darkside is a hoot and the xc route is pretty cool to.
I need to get back down there once I can be arsed to get back on my bike.
the roundhouse will be warm enough with the fire going. the ridge is now open and has added about 1.8km. try and take trekster up on his offer of showing you some cheeky bits as they are well worth it. the deer fence runs are a personal fave.
