[#2247083]

just changed the spring on my lyriks

when I wound the travel out to full it will not wind in again

have taken it out 3 times now and it moves freely when not in the fork

am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the new spring?

the travel adjuster won't turn clockwise at all

tried re-assembling with the travel wound right down and anti clockwise (increasing travel) its fine, but will not budge clockwise

3 springs and ball bearings all present and correct? Maybe the o-ring under the cap is missing? The fork bounces ok? The floodgate is turned off???

all springs and ballbearings in, o ring on the cap is there, the fork bounces ok but the adjuster will not move clockwise

I really don't get it

put the old spring back on in exactly the same way and its fine

I always get odd things happening to my bikes and vehicles 🙁

How do the springs compare to each other side by side, can you see any difference, to how they are put together, may give you a clue...

Is the new spring wound fully out or in?

Tried the spring both fully out and in, doesn't make any difference. Springs look pretty much the same except the new one has a black plastic insert as the travel adjuster, the one I took off was white. I really don't get it as when the spring isn't in the fork the plastic thing moves freely

You are looking at the wrong end! When in the fork the black plastic unit does not turn, the whole spring does. what you need to do is ensure that the top uturn assembly is free.
Remove the uturn spring, rebuild the uturn top cap with springs and balls, Soft jaw the bottom shaft in a vice, hold the threaded part of the uturn with your hand wrapped in a rag for purchase and turn the uturn assembly. If it still wont turn then there is something wrong in the uturn assembly, send the spring back if you bought it new. Or just leave it wound out.

Right, I've put the old spring back in so it shouldn't be too much of a faff to try that with the new spring. Just been looking at the shops feedback on eBay usa, doesn't seem they have an exemplary record for honouring returns, wish me luck!

why is there a circlip included in the spring kit?

isn't that in the lower leg of the fork?

Yes, it's identical to the one already in there - it's just a spare.

Jools it's for the top out spring in the bottom of the stantion. Don't worry about it, unless you loose the one already there you won't need it. Did you try the check I mentioned above?

this is properly doing my head in

spring and u turn knob move fine when not in the fork, as soon as its assembled it will not budge clockwise

just tried taking the plastic spiral shaped adjuster and bottom metal rod off my other spring, and still the same thing

old spring seems to be fine

think I finally sussed out what was going on

the bottom end of the spring wasn't finished properly, and a s a result, it was digging in the to bung thing (I don't know the name for it) inside the fork that the spring sits on to

got a new spring and it worked fine
