Looking for some help with a set of RS Lyrik!

Is it possible to convert from solo air to 2 step?

Its either a set of these or 36 talas...would prefer the lyrik as I can service them myself.

Anyone any experience of this change?

Thanks

Is it possible to change between any of the different systems noted on the RS site?

Seems to be quite a few different options...

Converting to 2-step? That's unique  If you want travel adjust, go over to u-turn, I've nothing against air suspension but the 2-step just isn't reliable enough (for example- mine broke in the post, never got as far as the trail!)

If you do want to make the conversion, I've got a brand-new warranty replacement 2-step spring in the garage. It's been fitted but I replaced it with coil as soon as I got it back. So by all means offer me money for that 😉

But really, coil is the better option. Fairly easy conversion too.

Thanks for the info!

I had heard of 2 step reliability issues...and although I like the idea of a coil the u-turn system puts me off slightly. On the fly and all that....

Was the coil mod expensive?

Not too bad. I bought a used u-turn assembly (includes the spring), there's a lot of these going around if you need a medium as people swap them out. Then I think all it needed was the topout springy thing, and the top cap and bolt, which I got new from TF.

In theory I could offset that by selling the 2-step parts but I start every sales pitch by going "I took this out of my forks because it's s**t" 😉 It's a shame, 2-step's a clever system but for a hard-use fork you need something you can rely on.

2-step's a bit more faffy but it's only 8 turns end-to-end IIRC, you can do it on the move on reasonably smooth trails or spin it all the way in (or out) in just a few seconds while stationary. The tradeoff is that it doesn't mess with the fork performance like TALAS does.

TBH I don't think there's a perfect travel-adjust 160mm fork, Lyrik u-turn is just the best there is from a pretty poor crowd. Maybe the 2-position TALAS is better, not tried it.

I agree, 160mm adjustable forks are a limited market. I tried a new 2 position talas some weeks ago. Its a lovely fork but pricetag and specialist service are putting me off.

I will take a look at u turn options! Thanks for your advise!

I went from 2-step to U-Turn, 2-step wasn't very reliable

So it really is as simple as get the spring unit thing, stick it in instead of the air cart? (plus topout bit and knob..)

u-turn spring bit cost around £70 ish from TFT if I remember, but that was a couple of years ago now

How does the 2 step problem manifest itself?
I've just fitted some 2011 2 steps (supposed to have reliability sorted) but I got them half price & I have a spare set of Pikes in case they need to go away for warranty work - not sure I'd have bought them if they were the only fork I owned.
I've only done four 20ish mile rides on them to date, but they're working very well & the 2 step function is something I use a lot - I also weighed them & they're only 230g more than the air pikes!

2-step gradually becomes 1-step.

2-step gradually becomes 1-step.

Is that @ the 115mm or 160mm?

snaps: Did you fit the 2 - step yourself?

No, they were 2 step airs from the factory

Creep down to 115mm.

U-turn conversion is simple. If you can service a set of forks you can do the conversion.
