My replacement RS Lyriks 2 step forks have broke again! The 2 step function wont reduce the forks travel, keeps them reduced for a few seconds then just fully extends again. The last prob I had with the 2 step the forks wouldn't return to full travel. The forks have barely been used! At least there still under warranty, it is a 2 year warranty with Rock Shox forks?

Convert them to u turns, it makes them into a much better fork.

As above , if they're still under warranty, get them to convert them to coil uturn.
The 2 step does seem to cause alot of issues, I had at least 6 enquires this week about uturn and coil conversions with owner fed up with the system giving problems.
The newer Dual Position system has yet to prove itself, I have only heard of one giving any trouble so far.

Only know of one so far, so that could be seen as expected if you see what I mean.
Although they'll probably be a dozen people posting that theirs have popped in a moment!

Mine are 2010 Lyrik forks do they have the dual position system? Thankfully they are still under warranty. On the plus side I will get a free service out of it. I think the turn around was 2 to 3 weeks I think, better now than the summer.

I have just done the swap over to uturn coil. They feel much better for it too. If it happens again outside you warranty it will cost you. Get it done while you can.

Would they swap to coils under warranty. What's the weight penalty?

LoCo - thanks, I don't actually have a pair but I'm just seeing if this is an option cost wise as I'm on the lookout for a set of coil Lyriks. Ballpark figure?

Really? What do you have to add, apart from a spring and a U-turn top cap, after pulling the air gubbins out? 🙂

Uturn spring assm.
Top out spring assm.
Travel adj. knob assm.

The rrp's more too 😉 £52.99 for spring assm. alone Rockshox stuff aftermarket is quite pricey

Ahh. Top out spring. I didn't even know there was one!

How the smeg do you get that out/in then? 🙂

And I know only too well how much a RS spring is! Luckily my Lyriks came with a firm already fitted. 🙂

the top out spring is in the lower part of the crown unit. so you have to take the lowers off remove the c clip in the bottom of the left stanchion to remove the 2step cart and replace with the top out spring. then you can put it all back together but fitting the u turn unit in the left leg with the new top cap. its pretty simple if you have the tools and parts.

I have the RS 2 step, got them repaired under warranty for a similar problem. The forks wouldnt drop down to min travel but kept rising up to about 125mm. I was quite pleased that they did them under warranty, cos its actually in part a wera and tear issue. Part of prob ( I think)is that the fork shifts 35ml of oil each time it compresses so there is a small amount of oil loss built in. Inorder to get all the adjustablility it is very over complicated set of seals and moving parts which just wear. I got a week in the alps a couple of long weekends in scotland and about 200 miles in the dales and am now back to having the same problems and another full service needed. They are going off to TF tuned for a coil u turn conversion. Only 50g heavier (cos of all trhe complicated bits they strip out ) and hopefully a lot more simple and reliable. I have a uturn Pike on a cotic Bfe and that has been bombproof
