Interesting stuff. Graphite is a good lubricant, dunno whether this is the correct application but the (admittedly biased) test reports suggest that it works well.

The jockey wheel iteslf won't break the bank at 20 Euros, whether it's money well spent depends on how the rest of the drivetrain wears with it.

Put some butter in't fridge, get small diameter cookie cutter, make your own!

The graphite will have a low level of friction but I doubt it will have the juiciness to replace lubing. How would the outer plates be kept free from rust?

This is why butter is best.
