I know they are cheeky, but anyone gone up and down from the trig point at the top of the fell. There are routes up and down from a N,E,S & W direction and wondering which one might be best.
From the North looks like hikeabike up, West down looks steep, switchy and fun, South down looks long and fast all the way back Ambleside and East maybe a bit undefined to the old quarries and the head of Rydal Water.
Not saying I'll do it, just wondering ๐
IMHO having walked up there recently there is not that much interesting from a biking perspective. As you say its either pretty steep up/down (eg North and especially West) or relatively gradual, grassy and boggy South.
The views are lovely ๐
Much more (walking) interest off the Bridleway that bisects it, various bits heading towards Lily Tarn, Clappersgate, Fox Ghyll etc
IMHO a bad idea
Poor biking in return for potentially annoying lots of hikers
Rode it Sundat last for the first time as park of a 40km run round Iorn Keld , finishing to the west of Ambleside .. a little disappointing TBH.
