I've had that thing since 1997 or so and the only wear and tear was from chipping the flat bladed screwdriver prising shells off rocks. Today I set off for a road ride without zipping up the saddlebag properly and it's gone. What would you buy to replace it? Needs the full range of hex, couple of Torx, screwdrivers and chain tool. The Alien also had a good range of ring spanners which were handy for kids bikes, but I can do without them.

A cheap one!

If you often loose them.

Cheers all, I reckon if I'm only losing them every fifteen years or so I can risk another brand name one.

Leyzne stuff is spot on, but bit pricey.

I have an old Topeak Hummer, had it for years. Lost the torx bit, called the importer & they sent me a couple of spares FOC.

Nice as it looks Leyzne stuff is poor quality, the alloy sides of mine has corroded and falling apart. Utter pish ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

Impressive seeing as aluminium doesn't really corrode.

Took 15 years to lose the one in question...

"Alloy" could mean steel. That corrodes. This is where the difference between people using "alloy" as an abreviation for aluminium when they should be using "ally". MTB magazines are usually the worst offenders...

Hexus... Alien is better for building climbing frames, Hexus is better for bikes.

Midlifecrashes - I was going through my workshop today - I discovered a top peak Alien 2 multi tool I bought in the states and maybe used once or twice. Seeing as I have 2 other multi tools I use, and a full set of workshop tools, it is surplus to requirements. If you are interested, my email is in my profile. Not sure what price, as I haven't really looked into it yet, but I'm sure we could come up with something.

I found all these tools will rust if kept loose in a backpack that gets soaked in sweat.
The stainless steel is typically 0.5% carbon to harden and 13-15% Chromium to be rust-resisting. It still rusts with body salts.
Aluminium bodied tools will also corrode in these conditions.
I keep my Hummer and Vise in an air-tight waterproof plastic container to prevent this.
