I can't seem to get my lockring tight enough, i had problem a while back when the thing developed a pronounced wobble when it had been fine for a a year or so and i had to take it to a shop because i could'nt get the bugger off, anyway the shop said it was an extra spacer that was the problem, now the prob is its slipping backwards and forwards which can be felt while pedalling...any idea's folks? oh the wheels mavic and cassette is xt..
Does it wobble across the whole range or just in specific gears?
its not so much a wobble but for an aft play and it seems to be across the range but will have to double check that to make sure...
As it is a Mavic wheel, have you fitted the spacer behind the cassette?
Like i said before it developed a pronounced wobble a while back and i could'nt get it off so took it to a bike shop and when they managed to get it off they said it had a spacer which should'nt of been there and its been fine for about 6 months but recently developed a for n aft play,i've taken it off and put it back on but after a while it comes loose again...the whole drive train is on its last legs so maybe i'll just put up with it till i get enough readys sorted...
Sounds like your LBS didn't know their Mavic wheels and took off the spacer that should've been on there.
Alternatively, Mavic freehub bodies have a bush at the back which can wear and cause the whole freehub body to rock, rather than just the cassette. If that's the problem it's new freehub time, and thank Mavic for still running a 15 year old hub design.
