Ride lots, ride some more, lose some weight, ride some more.

Or for a more structured aproach read Carmichales book (it's only a few quid) he wrote to cash in on Lance's success. It pretty much sums up the general 3 weeks on 1 week off approach that most coaches use. The hard bit is then figureing out what your weaknesses are and/or what strengths you'll need for XC, generaly lots of speed and endurance interspead with short periods of lots of power for overtakes/short hills.

Weight loss is a definite.

But was hoping to find a simple week by week plan but no joy.

Theres loads for half marathons/ marathons, etc .. but nowt free for cyclists.

Have you done the series before? If so, what sort of positions were you getting, and what sort of positions do you aspire to achieve this time around?

How much training do you do now, and what sort of training do you do?

Realistically how much time are you willing to set a side to train and what equipment do you have available to you? eg - Turbo, HRM, road bike, power meter etc.

Also, unless you have loads of 'lunch muscle', given that thetford is relatively very flat, weight loss will offer little performance benefits - There's a guy who's at least 16st who makes the top 10 there, the key is laying down a good amount of power and sustaining it for the race. However, sustained fat loss is rarely a bad thing.

I'm in the same boat.
I compete in the FNSS and am looking to improve for net year.
I commute on my MTB about an hour both ways over varied terrain.
I'm looking to make better use of my commute to train but finding any sort of training plan is proving difficult. I only have my mtb and a heart rate monitor equipment wise. I also run a few mountain marathons and XC races a year.

There are a set of general cycle training plans on BHF website- 10 weeks and not mtb specific but could be a starting point tho

2nd an iDave plan - the stress of not getting anything for your money makes the pounds just drop off.
