[Closed] Look X-Track En-Rage Plus - Any experiences?

Currently on the market for a set of endurobro clipless pedals.
I guess the usual option would be the Saint SPD ones, but the quirky within me was drawn to the Look X-Track En-Rage Plus pedals. These seem to have good reviews, good contact area and sealing, and I believe are made in EU.

I prioritise durability, contact area with shoe, durability and couldn't care less about "traction" pins on SPDs

Anyone has any experience with these? A good number of reviews around, but kind of hard to find real user experience

Cheers

Not tried the Look ones but would suggest you consider the Time MX series also.

Tried the standard enrage and really liked it, they had a more locked in feel than Shimano but were still easy to get out of in a hurry if that makes sense. Certainly as good as my XT trail pedals, though whether they’d last 8 years without love like the XTs I’m not sure! But I did like them and if/when my XTs die I’d consider a set for sure.

Thanks

@peteimpreza , I wouldn't mind to try the Time Speziale 8, but not a fan of the soft bronze cleats. Had a pair of Atac Alliums many years ago, loved the feel of them but the cleats were made of cheese.

@lawman91 thanks for the feedback. Also curious about Look's durability, even if in paper they seem well sealed with a good bearing system.

For reference, I'm currently on a set of M530s I got for free at Decathlon a couple of months ago. They're good pedals, but are surprisingly rusting a lot and would prefer to have more platform contact with my AM7 shoes

I've got some speciale 12s which I really rate highly. The cleats are looking warn after a lot of use but they are working fine still.

How much time is "a lot of use?"
When I had the Aliums the cleats would start to go in less than an year

Hi again,

Any more experiences on the Look pedals or on the Time cleats durability?
Thanks

The cleats are second hand and got about a years use before I got them. Ive used them a lot in the last 6 months indoors and out and they are still working OK while looking pretty beat. I guess compared the steel shimano ones they don't last as long though.

Thanks @seb84
I also learned that there's a trick with Time pedals were you use them at min. float, then when worn, reverse them to 17º float and have extended lifetime

Ill have to try that. Especially if they get easier to release as they wear. Thanks.

As of now I'm contemplating:
- Saint SPDs
- Look En-Plus
- XT M8120 - they look nice but saw some reports of issues with the locknut not sitting flush with the platform. Also, wonder if the contact area is that bigger relative to my M530s
- Time Speciale 8 - quirky me strikes again and gets drawn to these. Expensive, questionable cleat durability but very good reviews.

bump on this. Saint SPDs have been good for about 18 months but rather than the £60 I paid for the last two sets they're now >£100. And the bearings are being a pain to adjust (see other thread).

The looks 'look' a good alternative but run on 'quick to replace' cartridge bearings.

Just an update on this topic.
Got a pair of XT M8120 but ended up selling them some weeks ago. They worked great when new, but after one month or so I kept having accidental releases. If I cranked tension to the max my feet would stay in but then intentional releases would be too difficult. This resulted in me riding tense, and therefore, ride like cr@p. 3 clicks out from max I could take my feet out reasonably well but then accidental releases would start to happen again. So, riding like cr@p again out of fear of popping out from pedals. And at the slightest sign of moisture, I'd be all over the place as the mechanism would be lubricated by the water.
So frustrating.

So, back to flats for now. I like flats but miss not caring about foot position and my knees like the float vs the ultra grippy pedals.

I borrowed a pair of Time Atac Alium pedals from a relative for 2 or 3 rides. At first the amount of float felt scary but it seems you get used to that. Zero accidental releases, while still being very easy to intentionally unclip. While they are fairly wide (64mm, the same as the Speciale 8s) the lateral float allowed for my feet to move outside and be in an unstable, unsupported position, which I hated.
Anyone here has experiences with the older style DH Time pedals, such as the current DH4? How wide are them? They seem an interesting option vs the Speciale if they are wider, and maybe even tougher with the older retention bars
