[#1814547]

I often pass an FP sign when driving over to the next village, it's about 200 yds up the road from where I normally turn off the tarmac and take a double track climb up the hill to the spot known locally as Shooters Nab..
Today I thought i'd take a look at this other option.
Initial look was not promising (for going up), as I was pondering a 'hike a bike' to confirm this suspision, the farmer approached, nice guy - he looked at me and simply stated 'it'd be better coming down' (told you he was a nice guy...), a quick Q and he also confirmed that where I thought it might end up on the hill was right, so, off I toddled to the double track climb with hope in my heart...

This is what I found ๐Ÿ˜€
[img] [/img]

Need to dig the map out but i'd say it about a mile to a mike and a half drop of about 500 ft ๐Ÿ˜€

'scuse rubbish phone pick and it is, o'course, steeper than it looks...
No sign of recent activity on foot or bike, think we need to change that ๐Ÿ˜€

Is it just me, or is everyone else seeing a picture of a field?

It will be cracking when it snows and you can take a sledge down it.

You're obviously not looking hard enough. There's clearly a fence in the foreground too.

I see a trail. Just confirms my thoughts that the more than a few posters on this website wouldn't be able to ride a bike without stabilisers ๐Ÿ™‚

a bit of work with a spade, a berm here, a kicker there and im sure when its run in after winter you will have added something special to your local route. did the same myself with a local stately home wood, it has took me almost 4 years of 'stealth' building (every now and again so as not to alert the wardens) to link up a small downhillish run of only about half a mile but its now a shit load of fun, and right on my doorstep.

moved it ๐Ÿ˜‰

rubberneck - it seems it's a very, very quiet route but i'd rather leave nature, and plenty of runs down to help it make it's own shape - and, as most of the rinding around here is cheeky, i'd rather not risk the wrath of the wardens... ๐Ÿ˜€

bunnyhop & nbt - you'll recall the 'short detour' i took us on that time - road climb out of the village, right and up the hill? where we turned left at the top you turn right, do 6-700 yards, keep eyes left and viola!

theflatboy - stand with the shooting club behind you, look forward and right, you'll see the gate (tied up) and stile beyond. Narrow mostly smooth, fast run down (well, slow'ish for me, 1st run down and I is jey...)
Who you riding with?

no carpark, no cafe so that reduces number of punters - now put up some signs* then everyone would see how good it is**

*they be the work of the devil

**there must be beer at the bottom

PS do they still shoot at shooters nab? (used to climb there in 80's and recall there was a live range)

oh yes looked it up

Yes, there's still a shooting range up there. Just be careful on footpaths round this hill. Got collared by a land owner the other week a few miles away on the other side of the moor (doing something a bit cheeky). They're a bit stroppy if you go off piste as there's been motorbikers turning up, cutting through the fences and marauding over the moors (during bird nesting time as well) so the land owners are understandably a bit peed off.

i was out riding round there a week ago and there were actually people shooting there. MM, i may check it out - i love the riding round that route even with out going off-piste but sounds like it's worth a look. riding on fri eve with a mate from hadfield, will let you know on here what sort of time if you fancy it.

Nice one !

I'll check that out later this week. Thought I had found most of the better stuff around there........ done enough hike-a-bikes whilst looking !!

Based just over the hill in Upperthong btw (for now anyway).

right, here are some pics of the frankly massive flight of steps. an interesting challenge but not what you would call "fun". ๐Ÿ˜†

still, we rode the lot despite the rain and generally slipperiness.

this is the flight on the other side that we couldn't be bothered to walk up just to ride back down, having done the other set. ๐Ÿ˜€

it is yeah, if you find marsden, kirklees on the map there are a series of reservoirs out to the south. the steps are basically on either side of the nearest one to marsden.
