Did you try Evans as I bought a 29er from there Tuesday, my new large 29er is about the same size my XL 26 so a big 26 box might work.
What dimensions do you need? You might have more luck with a flat screen telly box, bit narrower though. (Too far south, but I have a 40" Samsung box in Doncaster)
not sure if my parents asked evans - dunno whether a regular box would work - just told them to mention to shops that it was for a 29er! will ask them to ask evans...
dimensions wise, big enough for a whole box, not just a frame or wheels unfortunately.
if only someone was driving from york to bristol in the next few days!
