looking for a long thin rucksac, for a bloke with a huge chest/back.

something like a old Kimm sac possibly?

Rucks aimed at climbers tend to be thinner and taller, for shoulder mobility.  Try those.

I'd look at climbing packs, they tend to be narrower so as to not catch on the rock. There's lots of choice, depending on budget I'd look at Crux, Blue Ice, or perhaps one of the old style POD sacks second hand (could be worth looking on the UKC classified forum).

What sort of size? What weight are you looking to carry in it?

Presumably you want a hipbelt?

25 ltr tops.   hip belt with pockets would be good.

I have an Inov8 Race Elite 24, which is long. I have hardly used it due to having to many other packs. Let me know if you are interested, say £35. It looks like this one.
