I need a new rear mech. I ride trails on a 5" full sus. Which cage length should I go for?

Well that depends on what chainset and cassette you're running.

On a trail bike you'll need either long or medium.

We'll need more info i'm afraid!

Thanks. I have a triple chainset and a 12 - 32 (or similar) cassette.

Long is what you need.

Medium is for a dual ring chainset set-up i.e 24/36. Max is usually around 36/38 i think.

Short are only used on DH bikes due to the close ratio cassettes they usually run.

I am running a normal 9 speed cassette with new style Shimano Saint Short cage... this has a feature that lets you change the ratio.

Running duel rings 22/34 and bash guard up front.

Sweet setup

for reference: i run a short mech on a mtb cassette dual ring set up 24-36.

for a triple and mtb casette you will need a long.

Medium works fine on a triple set up on a hardtail, just need to make sure you don't end up crossed over (big chainring and big sprocket etc)
