I rather like the 248 in a lipstick that Halfords sell

Low / medium grade is all you need - 248 stick is very handy and little risk of over-doing it

Another vote for 248 here, very easy to apply, and used for that exact purpose and no pins lost yet.

Used 243 for years previously though with no problems.

242 would be the best bet as 243 is far stronger than needed, so might cause unwanted issues getting a mashed pin out again. That said, 243 will work and is easily bought, unlike 242 which is much less common... Or 248 as mentioned is also a good option, stronger than needed but easy to use.

I usually go by the colours for the likes of this,

Pink - weak stuff and normally don't bother
Blue - medium and use it most of the time
Green - strong and depending on the number sometimes needs heat to remove components!

222 is my go to strength for bike stuff.
