Not been to Llandegla since last summer and went today and was amazed by the huge area of tree clearing (though it is obviously a commercial forest...), I spent ages just watching people riding the switchbacks, looks great, should be great to ride when it dries out.

It is amazing to ride there now the felling's progressing - you don't realise just how much doubling back there is until you see the track laid out bare like that.

It's great at night to see the lights zipping about on the trail too ๐Ÿ™‚

Loddrik

I was thinking of going up there later this week... To test out my new Maverick! Well worth it by the sounds of things then?

Mboy, unlike some who seem to have to tell all, I quite like it for a quick blast plus it only takes me 45 mins to get there. The section without the trees definately adds a different dimension. If anything I found myself upping the pace. They have also added a skills section by the car park if that is your type of thing.

For people who don't like it, good for them, but I am not interested in hearing it.

mboy- It's great for tuning a new bike suspension setups as it's short enough to do a few laps for back to back tweaks and there are plenty of quick loop arounds you can do to repeat the black sections etc...

for those that moan about it simple solution...don't go.

Trail centres aren't normally my cup of tea, but having recently taken a newbie round it was actually quite fun. I suppose a bit like christmas its better when you have young kids because their excitement rubs off on the jaded cynical old ****er that I am. ๐Ÿ˜€

Which section have they felled? I went about 2 months ago, and the only felled section i remember was towards the start, had a few high berms on it.

I think it feels faster to ride without the trees, the first climb is also alot better.

Heh, I'm of the other view about the felled areas, I feel I'm going slower, presumably 'cos the horizon is miles away, not wizzing past a yard from your bars/head. The open section top surface is pretty cut up as well, which causes me issues on my XC hardtail.

(edit, still love the place though!)

Glad to see so many positive comments, I've enjoyed every trip I've made there. Usual unhelpful comment I see, same whenever Cannock or Sherwood Pines is mentioned. Looking forward to going again soon.

Superb, sounds ideal for a bit of a blast on my new bike...

Anybody fancy meeting there this Wednesday afternoon for a bit of a ride?

I went on a one week riding trip to North Wales in September, my first stop was Llandegla. After reading negative things on here and elsewhere i didn't expect much.
I found it excellent! The skills area had only been open a week or so and that was a good fun. The black route although not something i would grade as black, was excellent, very very flowy, very well made and thought out, just fun!

Hugh-b indeed, no one knows if these self appointed trail gods who decry the trail centres can even ride over a kerb. I know of several international dh 4x and xc racing stars who regularly ride at Llandegla to work on their skills as part of their training regime. If you trail centres are not your bag then leave them alone, for most other riders who ride them get more than enough fun to justify the trip.

I find riding trail centres avoids otherwise unavoidable exposure the cow and sheep shit in the Clwyds, gates jammed closed whilst socialising with a wide range of friendly riders happy to chat and no random walkers standing in the middle of the best line.... the lone frontiersmen here who only ride natural mostly only ride town parks and tow paths with confidence, they will ride for 3 years then sell their bikes finding they are having more fun playing golf because ultimately everything they can't ride seems to bore them.

Llandegla will open more trail, including a pump track, soon but the reality is they are obligated to ensure these trails are safe for anyone to use. If you want to try something that does not flow and makes you continually have to think where to put the next wheel you know where to look to find it.. the only problem is by defining those bridleways as difficult and challenging will always tempt the councils to make them safer for the same reason the trail centres have to consider the point as well as how they can fund the long term maintenance.

Blimey, are all the riders at trail centres as friendly and happy as you, Max? I don't really get all this us and them stuff. Some people like riding at trail centres, some prefer bridleways and some happily do both. So why not just live and let live and just enjoy riding your bike?

What's the golf thing all about by the way, it's a fantastic way to get out into the outdoors without needing a GPS and tights. I can't quite understand why you're laying into it. Yoofs eh ๐Ÿ˜‰

Llandegla is my new favourite place! did the black on sunday and seemed a lot longer than the red i did last time. The trail surface is spot on and the berms and jumps are so smooth its like being on a rollercoaster. It takes me 1 1/2 hours to get there (sorry Mr. Ozone Layer) but it's worth it. The only thing is on a weekend it's so busy you're bound to run into the occasional tossspot. last time it was the guy who said i should have waited at the top when i asked to pass him, this time it was the bloke who waltzed infront of me with his daughter to join his wife for the queue for the bike wash. Apart from that it had everything and i finished the ride covered in mud which is always the sign of a good ride ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

i rode there this weekend for the first time, took a mate who doesn't usually ride off road. The black trail is a fun trail to ride, again, not sure if it warrants a black grading, but who cares, its a good crack.

Had a good weekend anyway, and want to say thanks to the 3 chaps that helped me out after i insisted my mate took the only camelbak with him with the spares when i peeled off to do the black and he stuck to the red. 'I'll be ok mate, shouldn't get a puncture with these dual ply tyres' are words i shouldn't of said as i rode off.

If you're reading this, thanks for the patches and in the end the spare tube, i wouldnt of fancied walking it!
