I dont get it personally. I have ridden the black fully rigid singlespeeding and on my 1x9 hardtail and i felt nothing at the end. I have a mate who practically lives there every weekend and loves it but i just cant get excited about it????? Parts of the red are way more fun than the black imho. Anyone else feel the same??

i found the red a bit of a disappointment, i sort of expected something more but it never delivered. will do the black next time though.

I dunno what you don't get myself, it's fast and smooth, you can get round in less than an hour and do it again, it's a good work out with plenty of air involved but each to their own. If you don't like it no problem, just don't go there any more.

What Samuri said +1*

It's a great trail centre catering for all abilities. If you are too manly for it, then head somewhere that will meet your needs. There's nothing to get, just enjoy it for what it is.

I loved the red, fast and flowing. Not at all technical, but theres a million and one places for technical riding.

It's a non-technical trail centre, designed for speed and (to a minor extent) air. Its and XC course. I can't get round it in under an hour these days, but its fun if done fast. The black is pretty much a blue borderline red, but its fun.

Well to be fair it was *just* under an hour but I was on a long travel singlespeed.

Plenty of people here who can do it faster than me though, I'm 42 for christ's sake!

No idea. Last time, and fastest time, I did it was at night where I couldn't concentrate on the long straight uphills and let them bore me into slowing!

we had this discussion a while ago, hang on....

Nope, clearly over a year ago. Definately someone on here was way faster than me round it, and when I blasted round in an hour, on my second lap which took about ten minutes longer, some old giffer passed me on a cannondale at a blistering pace, he was probably quicker than me too.

the long straight uphills

must be 2 llandeglas then?
After the first boring uphill slog to get to the start proper I cant recall any more
maybe in the darkness you turned left instead of right?

Oh no maybe not, then you would have been over the moors and on a proper fun ride rather than an average trail cantre bmx track

No, pretty much all of the uphills are boring. Some a bit less straight than the first, fair comment, but still boring enough to discourage me. Not technical enough to get you involved.

robhuges - red and black, yes. Although there's apparently a recent black add-on that I've not tried (last couple of months?).

Mine was for just the black, and not with any bits that might have been added in say the last 6 months.

If you do the black on a rigid SS, then it will be boring, no matter how fast you're bound to tell me you can go on it. You need to do it justice and rail it on a decent FS. If you ride it on the right bike, at the right speed, then you'll love it. Also best to add in some of the cracking natural trails around it.

Jim
Is there any chance you could send me a map of the natural trails around there? Or maybe come over one day and you could do a tour. Will be much appreciated.
Steve

friendsandfamily, sure, email address in profile. Basically if you start your ride at Llangollen, you ride up to World's End. At the top you'll see Llandegla forest on your left. Find some boardwalk and ride it into the forest. Do the blacks and reds, have a coffee and some cake at the cafe, ride back up to where you came into the forest, then ride up to some TV masts. Then, there is a cracking descent off there (past the top masts), back onto the road you came up on. Then, cross the roads to a trail that takes you up around the cliffs. After that, it's a cracking singletrack descent back to the road lower down.

I'm another who can't see the attraction, except for the lovely bacon and egg barmcakes in the caff. Far better natural riding in the area around the outside of the forest, for me.

I managed around 50 minutes on my second lap of the black on a 6" full bouncer. Set off with another guy and stayed with him till he left me behind about half way along. He was already half way through jet washing his bike when I got to the end. Sod.

I'm sure serious cross country lycra boys on their carbon hardtails could manage it in the 40s? They always have a habit of making me feel fat and useless when I see them out on the trails.

Are these times including JJ's Jumps?

I don't know what JJs jumps are, nor any of the trail names I'm afraid - I've only been the once and did two laps, think it would be about July, August last year. Might it have been extended since then? From memory the black trail consists of detours off the main red section. Does that sound right? We followed everything marked black, including bermy sections and jumpy sections with loads of tabletops.

I can remember the weather. It was absolutely hammering with rain all day, worst rain I've been out in for ages, ugh.

Not sure that's strictly true. IMO It got more fun and fast feeling when I went from a 6" full sus to a 3" full sus, simply because there's nothing technical or long-travel-requiring in the whole trail, it just saps energy. I'm not sure I'd go as far as rigid, granted, but short travel hardtail would be perfectly suitable for that trail. That said, I'm one of those people who changed down in travel because he got bored of the bike absorbing all the trail fun, and I seem to be in a minority there - most seem to be going for bigger and bigger travel.

I thought most of the black DH bits would have been loads of fun on a 24" BMX cruiser. All smooth, sweepy and flowing, like a downhill pump track. I did feel way over-biked when I was there.

agree with Coffeking, llandegla is better on my 100mm Commencal Ti hardtail than my Meta full suss
So is Cannock monkey, they are probably similar kind of trails

Trailrider Jim - is the path past the radio masts not a footpath and a bit sensitive due to nesting grouse?
(Doesnt personally stop me occasionally so long as it is not nesting season but not sure it should be advertised on such a popular forum)

I like Llandegla.
Only been the once a couple of years back, but it's not often I visit a trail centre so it makes a pleasant change.
There's a lot of natural stuff right on my doorstep so I've no real need to venture further. But, it's nice to have some variety !

Chris

Just too smooth for my liking, great facilities, but trails were sterile. Actually looked forward to some of the braking bumps! No great desire to go back soon.

Went to Llandegla a week back after about 2-3 years. I agree the climb to the top of the hill could do with alot more thought instead of straight up. You know more use of the hill etc. Lots of sections were felled and has created a blown out rutted afair which I personally like until you reach the black which is like it always was to my memory. Yes the black is not really black but a fun bit of trail and indeed is a blast. I do think though to catch up with leading trail centres ( eg 7 Stanes) it does need alot of work ( opening myself up to abuse here)and would like to see something more engaging. Also these centres are geared towards introducing mountainbiking to the general public and opens the sport up which hopefully is a good thing and for local economy. Lets hope the guys at Llandegla and UPM sort something out soon.
