Comes with a headset. Syntace stuff is top quality; why fit something else?

Excellent frame. Got a down tube protector though. Mine has a nice dent even in the thicker bit by the bb. Great bikes though

Where possible I've always fitted Kings. The syntace in my 301 has been fine and the bearings are reasonably priced if it goes pearshaped.

As above get a downtube protector!

Sorry, my post have been confusing.
I'm basically saying I would fit a king if possible, but I don't think it is. The Syntace has been brilliant, plus you can play with the head angle with different cups.

I've got a Rockguardz on mine

Syntace in mine had been fine, not sure why you'd want to ditch the new headset that comes with the frame for something else - it's all hidden anyway?

I wanted to fit a CK one to mine when the bearings failed prematurely

At that time, early 2012, no Chris King headset would fit

I replaced the bearings and the Syntace headset, which has been spot on ever since

I'm not sure the sealing on the bottom race is that good - Iv had to disassemble / Clean / Re grease twice in the last 4 months after hearing crrrrrh noise when turning the bars.

Turns out the bearings themselves were fine but there doesn't seem to be a second seal to stop crap getting in and around the sealed bearings.....like you would have on a hope external headset.

Of course this could be just a feature of internal headsets to completely rely on the seals in the cartridge bearings.....?

I found that crap was getting into the headtube from the downtube - i always wash the bike upside down

to stop the crap getting in there, i taped up the holes at the joints inside of the headtube

Probably needs greasing twice a year now

Yes Syntace headset is very good.
If you want extra sealing, pack it with marine grease and wipe a liberal layer over the exterior of the bearing seals too.

I do like the syntace kit, I love how it looks understated but just considering my options is all.
Can't wait to build her up
