[Closed] Linkage bearing grease replacement

I've had it suggested to me that replacing the stock grease in bearings used in rear suspension linkages with a high quality lithium grease can increase the lifespan to ~300% of the factory lubricant. I am inclined to believe the person that suggested this to me. It is a bit of a tedious job mind.

Could anyone suggest a suitable grease? I don't think they were talking about the £7 a tin Carlube branded all-purpose lithium grease I have and it is otherwise ease to get lost amongst industrial greases that are approx £1million/ml.

Heaviest, stickiest stuff you can find. That mobil above is good. I like silkolene rg2.

TJ will be along shortly to tell you that lifting the seals will ruin the bearing.

(in fairness, it can if you're a chimp with 12 thumbs).

Bel Ray marine grease.

Big tub for not much money. I pack all "slow speed" bearings with the stuff.

All 11 of m jeffsy bearings are packed to the brim with it!

I don't think a thinker glue exists. It's like a gluey jelly.lol

You're not replacing grease, there is **** all in there from new.

Any grease is good, something sticky is best.

300%...would love to see his/her evidence.

I agree, it's pretty shocking how empty some bearings are when you pop the seals off!

I removed the seal from a replacement linkage bearing I've recently received to see what was going on. I was surprised to find that there was really very little grease at all in there. You were spot on al/scoop. Shame I didn't do the same for the full set I've already fitted first... I'd expect more of a bearing costing a tenner.

There is something very satisfying about popping the seal back on and seeing all the excess grease squeeze out. Lol

Then clean the outside carefully as these thick greases attract dirt like mad if left around the outside of the seal.

Yeah, shame all the other bearings are fitted but when you next change them you'll be better prepared mate.👍
