'If' a couple of my friends who are lacking in basic life skills (common sense) were to buy expensive lights to enable night riding......
what points should i make them aware of regarding the care and maintenance of lightsets.

charging, discharging, storing, waterproofing

what do you do, what tips and tricks have you learnt?

Tell them to get Ay Ups. No maintenance required, waterproof and the battery doesn't lose a charge when not used and has a 6 hr burn time.

Get back to work you slacker.

lumicycle have some really good advice on this.
basically:
li-ion store part charged ( or part discharged, however you want to look at it ) and in the cool.
nimh store charged and in the warm.
do not fully discharge nimh as this will shorten the pack's life.
if you're going for higher quality lights ( ayups? hm'k ) then li-ions will be properly protected, so once they go out, don't try and get a bit more out of 'em. they've quit cos there's nothing left.
