A bit late in the season I know.... I've got an entry into Torq In Your Sleep next month. My current light is a little lacking in the brightness department, something a little brighter would be good. I'm not wanting to spend a fortune, what's good on Ebay these days?

Actual branded light from actual shop, really, really good for the money

I've got one of those Moon Canopus units, and it's great. Maybe not quite as compact as some, but it's got a huge battery life and puts out plenty of light. For the price it's hard to beat

O-light are pretty decent for the money. Prices are up and down and there are usually a few discount codes around. I bought the RN3500 which is way more light than I'll ever need, a quick google suggests this is now a bit more than I paid last year (although it is still cheap compared to exposure/hope/etc).

I bought a some of these for a solo 24hr race last year:
https://www.mtbbatteries.co.uk/mountain-bike-lights/lumenator-20/

I think they are very good value compared to other more expensive brands. But what I did was buy 2 sets (to have a spare light just in case, but was never needed) plus 2 extra batteries. The total cost was much lower than something like an exposure light. But with a total of 4 batteries it meant I had more than enough runtime, didn't need all the batteries, even running them on full power. So just needed to swap the battery pack over and no worries about charging anything back up.

Mark from Mtb batteries was really helpful.

My way was probably a bit overkill, but meant that I had no worries and had more than enough lights.

Another vote for MTBBatteries. My set is 2 years old and the batteries are still going strong.

Another Moon Canopus owner here. It's pretty good.

I would be more enthusiastic but I lost the charging cable after its one and only use so its now just a 129 quid paperweight.
( damn fine paperweight though it weighs s bloody ton(

This shows how out of touch I am... I thought the EBay Cree lights were where its at for cheap bike lights. Thanks for your replies so far keep them coming.

The charging cable is a USB-C lead...

**EDIT in fact, a three quid USB-C lead:

They are still ok. I still have a working solarstorm x2 which is fine a local ride. I expect there are better cheapies out there now. I just bit the bullet and bought the o-light which is definitely a step up in light output and build quality.

Er… ?

What?
I'm a doofus?
Agreed

The charging cable is a USB-C lead…

By George you're right 😄😁
Looks like I owe you £126.01

Hang on. Take a step back here. Are you saying that there wasn't actually a 3 pin plug lead with a male plug thingy on the end of it to charge the battery?
When I did charge it 4 weeks ago I used the USBC
And I'm just imagining there being a mains charger...

What really?

I've just found this paper thing called an Instruction manual and you're completely right.

Wowza. I'd been turning the house upside down looking for that missing plug thing.

Anyway, OP, buy a Moon Canopus. They're great, if a little unintuitive to operate 🙄

the old cateye Volt 800 is probably easily outperformed but I use one for night rides through woods and trails and it works for me. Otherwise I'd probably go for a Fenix

That moon looks like a great deal. I e got one of the cheap Halfords 1600 lumen all in one bar mounted jobs. Quite like that.

Fellow Capopus owners.
When you charge it, do you get 5 blue lights showing on the battery like wot it says in the manual,?

I just get three, regardless of how long it charges for....

There appear to only be three LEDs, can't see and additional two that are not lit up.

4000 lumen for £130 is amazing, I recall spending £575 on a Lupine Wilma back in the day for a whopping 700 lumens!
