As per title really.
Fancy making myslef a light set of wheels and was wondering what to get.
Hope hoops SP3 or have pair of hope pro II build with DT spokes and a light rim.
I was going to go for a spank VOMAX, but was wondering if one day I'll go tubeless (very unlikely I know but never say never) why no give me the option while building my wheels.
So what tubeless rims come around the weight of the vomax??
Cheers
What do the VOMax's weigh?
Crest is the obvious choice (c340g), or the Alpine (c320g). I'd not bother with straigh pulls though, just get Pro 2 Hoops (mine are 1585g) or get some lighter hubs. The SP3s aren't that much lighter, and are far more flexy (in the 24h variant), and spares are a swine to come by if you don't happen to be near a Hope dealer.
If you don't mind spending a bit more DT240s would probably be my choice as I know you're a reasonably 'aggressive' rider.
Well DT is out of order, as they are too fragile. They are very stiff, but very dingable. On my 'fr' hope hoops wheelset the rear one as a few dings and dongs 😳
I'll probably will go for 32 rather than 24 as well.
VOMAX are around the 340grs weight mark and from experience spank are usually on the though side. Still do you know if ti's worth going to the expenses of tubeless "just in case"?
Well you'd be able to convert the Spank rims anyway, may not be quite as easy as a Stan's rim, but doable. If you know you like them then that seems a good choice!
Got back from the shop. The black/white vomax are at a verified 400grs. The Polish ones at a verified 360grs. I'll probably shed weight on the spokes as well, as DT competition are at 85cts per unit and DT revolution at 1.15cts per unit, but the DT revolutions are about 100grs lighter for 64 units. Basically, if DT and hope are not liying too much, I should get a set of wheels at 1443grs for 560 € 😀
Buy your Revolutions from Action Sports, dirt cheap, sent me 10 spares too when I ordered 64.
i am a lbs only (i know stupid me 😉 )kinda guy.
Just to let you know got a text from LBS and my rear wheel with rim tape is 880 grs, with a mavic 717 disc (yeah I was being a cheap stake). Changing it for a spank VOMAX wil save me a further 35-50 grs :d
