I am a nugget, of the highest order.
In fashioning a new and holy unnecessary helmet mount for my light (one of the Aldi cree jobbies) I've nipped the negative between the heat sink and the case baring the wire and now it's not working. Have I killed it to death or could I get a knowledgeable soldery type to fix it? Would do photos but my phone's just died. Garrrrr!!!!!

Can you post a pic of the damage? If its just the cable it should be an easy fix
Difficult to tell without getting hands on and poking around with a meter.
Wouldn't have thought shorting the negative to case or heatsink should be a disaster though.
Doesn't look like a vast amount of damage to the cable but as fifeandy says it probably needs continuity testing with a meter to see if it is just the cable that is the problem.
If that is the problem then either replacing the cable or splicing it with a bit of heat shrink should be relatively easy (for a soldery type :-))
