[#2412686]

Hi

I recently installed middleburn RS7s using their self extracting crank bolts and I'm finding that the LH crank arm keeps loosening.

Any tips on fitting that might help?

Would threadlock on the crankbolt help?

Is it square taper, if so chances are you've rounded it off and it is now ****ed I speak from experience sadly

one of the most common causes of cranks coming undone is overtightening of the bolt - a lot of these bolts are aluminium and can stretch quite easily if overtightened and once overtightened they obviously dont hold as well as they should. Threadlock can help but isnt a permanent answer...

Did you do them up using a torque wrench...??

cue lots of posts saying ive never used a torque wrench and my cranks never come undone..!

it is square taper

hmm not good news

I didn't use a torque wrench, thinking it would be ok which is probably an expensive mistake to have made. ๐Ÿ™

if it is a stretched bolt you can just get a new bolt and hope you havent damaged the thread in the BB...

I'll take it apart over the weekend and have a look. New bolts or a new BB are slightly easier to take than a new crank arm, so hopefully it will be that rather than rounding the crank.
