I want to fit a Knard on Crest to my Singular Swift (old blue one). Clearance looks tight! Has anyone tried this?

I don't think a knard on a crest is a good idea, flow-ex width seems to be about minimum for a knard.

Spacewise in the fork I also think it would struggle.

Sam had some 29+ forks knocking about, email him to see if he has any left.

You need at least 25mm internal rim width really to get the most out of 29+ tyres, ideally 35mm or more.

You might get away with the fork clearance, or if not most of the newer rigid forks coming out are now 29+ friendly. A Knard on a 50mm rim fitted no problem on the front of my old Charge Cooker rigid...

Anyone got a full fat front on their Krampus, was pondering this option whilst out in the snow the other day?

It's an interesting idea Bigdugsbaws. I know a local guy who runs a fat front on a Jones Spaceframe and it certainly doesn't slow him down 😀

Sold on the Grey Karate Monkey frame set, bought a used Pugsley frame set, offset the Krampus wheel set adding a 135mm Surly hub up front, an On One 100mm square taper BB, and now running 2.5 Minions both ends with HUGE mud clearance until i get another pair of 3" 29+ skins, and i can also add 4" fat wheels when needed 🙂

Anyone fitted a 2.3/2.4 "normal" tyre on a Dually rim...
Ardent/ Ralph/Nic/Dampf
Keen to know if they get any wider or just flatter.

Early days, but anyone looked at 650b+ yet ?

They come up wider with a full profile (see the rear tyre on Mal-ec's phot above). They lack the volume and floaty feel of proper 3" 29+ tyres though.

2.4 Ardent on a 50mm rim on the rear of this.
Comes up much bigger than it did on a Flow.

Interesting to see that (nearly) all these steel frames are running 1x drivetrains. To my eye having a single chainring just looks right on a steel frame, elegant even.

24+ and 26+ are very welcome, it's all about tyre girth not diameter 😆

This may or may not be of interest but I converted my Dually/Maxxis Chronicle set up to tubeless last night.

Very easy, track pump, 2 wraps of gorilla tape, bit of sealant and they went up first time.

Does anyone still use 26+? What's the general consensus?

I've been in Southern Bavaria the past few days, and on Tuesday borrowed a fat bike and went for a ride with a mate in the proper deep snow.
Being a bit critical of them, I was really hoping not to like it...
...but...
It was a lot of fun, but we were riding down the side of a mountain on a trail which was up to my knees in powder. That doesn't happen often if you live in SW England like I do, so I certainly wouldn't have a full fatty. It got me thinking though... I have access to a 650b frame with sliding dropouts, which can also accommodate a 29" wheel, would a 26+ fit?
The following day I was chatting to a dude who had such a set of wheels (26", 50mm rim, and 2.8" tyre) so we tried it, and it fitted with bags of room to spare. Could possibly even go 3" wide.
I was really hoping it wouldn't fit, so I could put the idea to bed. Now that I know it fits though, I think I'm gonna have to get one...

Go on then. Intention is that it will have a Travers Prong fork & LB 38mm carbon rims, but that could be ages away. Here it is prior to me recording my slowest ever time on the climb back home.

Transforms the feel of a bike like the 1x1 and makes my 29ers redundant.

Also pretty good in light snow.

The paint job appeals to the long lost petrolhead in me. 🙂

Framebag is a cheapie from eBay, about £15. Seems to be holding up ok, and amazingly waterproof. I've left the bike out in some howlers and expected to find water in the bag, but no sign of it.

I fitted a rabbit hole/knard on the front of my karate monkey at the weekend. Love how it feels. Hopefully fitting the rear tomorrow with a 2.4 chunky monkey.

@ dustyhardtail - What the profile of the tyre like on the Flow EX rim?

Can yiu run a fairly low pressure?

I found the WTB Trailblazer 2.8 to be 71mm wide on the Hugo, and about 64mm wide on the flow. It did lose some girth, but it still rides great. I have to run the pressure a little higher, I run about 12 psi in the front with the Hugo, but much closer to 20 psi in the back with the Flow. I usually run higher pressure in the back anyways, but not having the wide rim causes it to lose some girth. Still rides fantastic though. The internal width of the Hugo is 49.9 and the flow is 25.6? I think.

I'm waiting for a Chronicle to arrive for my Stooge, is it essential to carry a spare 3.0 tube or can I make do with a regular size tube in an emergency? I don't really want to carry 2!

The advice I was given from Southdowns bikes, where I bought the Trek Stache 9 from, was that a normal 29er tube will be fine for an emergency puncture on the trail.

That looks a lovely machine.

I'm thinking of some 650b+ wheels/tyres for my Solaris - lots to mull over 😛

Is that a classic swift? With the old forks? What's the clearance like on those tyres? Contemplating some semi + rims/tyres on mine .
