The route for the 2023 Étape du Tour has just been announced. It’s going from Annemasse to Morzine!

I’ve done most of the climbs before but not all on the same ride. Col de Cou, Col du Feu, Col de la Ramaz and Col du Joux Plane makes for a tasty 4000m+ of climbing over 152km.

I did the 2018 one in Annecy and it was a great experience. Entries open on Wednesday so be ready if your interested as it will sell out very quickly. I have the green light from the boss so fingers crossed.

Now that is lumpy! I think i'd be fitting a compact chainset and an 11-32 cassette for that one 😮😀

I did the last EdT to finish in Morzine ((2016), Megeve to Morzine. They shortened the stage (Col de Ramaz got omitted) due to landslides the previous fortnight so the road was closed for repairs. It was open again when the actual race went through but the actual EdT was only 78 miles.

Baking hot and the final climb (Joux Plane) was SO tough. People flaked out in every bit of shade they could find. Probably a good job they'd cut the day short. Morzine was like an oven, stifling heat when we finished.

Yeah I’ve climbed the Joux Plane in Mid day mid summer sun. There’s barely any shade. It’s brutal.

The 2018 etape nearby in Annecy was 30 degree plus too. Savage!

I arrived in Morzine that day in 2016 and remember the transfer from the airport being particularly sweaty as we were diverted via Thonon due to the Etape.
