Riding Leogang on a hardtail. The smoothest track in the series so most suitable for blasting down on a HT, obviously he won't be racing on it!
If the hardtail was slower then not sure he has made his point. He could ride any WC track on a hardtail and be slower.
The only point he's made is that there's too much practice in WC DH if you can afford to piss away a run
GW has ridden that on his road bike.
Pretty embarrassing listening to middle of the road dad rock in the propain pits if you ask me.

Manualled the whole track
Do you think Phil sells cut and shut motors in the off season?
As its such an easy track I guess Phil is going to smash everyone's time tomorrow.
I dont know what has happened to DH but they are complaining prima donnas this season.
Take it easy on the poor lad.
He's not going to win so he needs to keep his profile up. This is a creative way of doing that.

I quite like his spivvy little 'tache.
Crap comparison. At this level any of them should be able to do the courses on a HT. Hes braking earlier, going into corners slower, missing drops, taking wider & easier lines, the HT doesnt track as well etc etc. Still he should podium.... ๐
He does quite well at BDS level not so much at WC though. I think it's safe to say he does a damn site better than us bunch of muppets, even on a HT and the attention whoring aside.
But yeah didn't exactly smash it on that run, the paede tache ruining his aero.
It's more of a piss take aimed at the UCI.There was talk of getting a few racers to do a run on their hard tails to highlight their grievances with the way WC downhill tracks are progressing (or not) to fit the needs of Tv.As they feel like they are being ignored by the governing body and organisers. It was pointed out that Schladming (one of the most beloved of the old Wc tracks) is'nt too far away and that whilst there is suitable terrain at Leogang (the woods) the organisers were unwilling to pay the farmers to use it.
Luckily for Phil Atwill his team manager/boss thinks it's even more of a piss take than his riders do!! (go Baltic!!!) And is quite vocal about his disapproval too.

The tracks got worse. The vast majority of riders are'nt there for the $'s and glory. They just want to compete on the best dh tracks around the world. Also coke and hookers.
Except I thought they complained about the rock sections that were on the Leogang course last year. They were removed. They still aren't happy.
They all have to ride the same course and yet only some feel the need to complain.

I don't think they have the option, as above, there are a lot of land owners involved. Some sections do come through woods but the motorway sections come across the ski piste and follow the fireroad where they basically have a strip about 15ft wide to work with.
I even heard someone complaining about the tunnels, which are necessary to cross the roads.
He never suggested it'd be as fast. Even a totally nontechnical course covered in nothing harder than braking bumps would be slower on a ht.
It'll be interesting to see if anyone busts out the enduro bikes for the race, though. Thing is, even if you become convinced it's not a track for the dh bike, that's still the bike you have all the practice and experience on, and still the bike the team's got the setup knowledge and spares for. Things have to get really bad before switching away from all of that makes sense.

I think even at the pro level a lot of them wouldn't want to do the big doon at fort william on a hardtail, frinstance. (I've ridden the public fw course on a hardtail, any competent rider could. I plan to ride it on my fatbike. But the pro line is different. In this case it's not really about "riding it on a hardtail" as much as it is a statement "this is too simple".)

People complained because they were artificial and weird and ridiculously high consequence, not because they were hard:
Just needs a few heathers and a bit of saxifrage and it'd be a lovely rockery.
They complained about the rock 'garden' because it was fekkin' lethal.....not technically hard to ride.
They all have to ride the same course and yet only some feel [s]the need to complain[/s] free to air their concerns in public as it will negatively effect their sponsors who pay their wages.
I suspect if you talked to the riders in private the vast majority would agree with the 'whingers'.
UCI want more Tv viewers so they can charge more for licensing races.Good Tv means close racing-means shorter tracks.Means visually exciting tracks-means faster speeds.Means big jumps-means less tech.Means Leogang.

If he'd wanted to make a proper protest he should have done it on an old womans shopping bike ๐
It was a joke, came from the wyn TV track walk. Some days stw tries to find meaning in too many places.
