Essel - I leant a mate - a renowned thrasher my £4000 motorbike. I regularly lend folks my cycles. Usual rules apply - bend it and mend it

Its the precious attitude that many on here have - FFS a few streaks of mud left on it and "it looks tatty"

I just do not have the materialistic affection for my possessions that some seem to have nor am I so precious that a bit of mud on the bike "feels like it has been raped"

Really - the guy washed it - just not in such an OCD manner as the OP likes.

Some of you really need some perspective

Imagine, say, Hora had borrowed your wife for the weekend. You look after her and she always has nice hair and ironed clothes. But after Hora had borrowed her you'd expect her to come back with a black eye, reamed to the point of leakiness and probably a bit woozy from all the stun grenades. But you wouldn't say "she looks as though she's been raped", you'd say "I bet she's had fun!". Same with your bike, no? 😉

LOL!

I like my bikes, but mates are more valuable.

This really. I've had lent things damaged, and returned in a better condition (once with a new chain, cheers Robin!). S'only stuff innit.

Each to their own then.
But I don't think it's case of 'precious attitude' i'll lend the car out (decent estate car) I'll lend you my camera, even probably my binoculars or scope, but not my p & J.
3 things I don't share, my grub, my bike, & her indoors. (I don't think anyway!)

Essel - I said that early on - the lesson if if you are that precious about something then don't lend it

Why folk are so precious about a bike beats me - but a good few obviously are as postings on this thread show

I'm with you TJ.

Just because some people are saying the OP has overreacted, doesn't mean they approve of leaving bikes a bit smeary and unlubed.

It's just something that would mildly irritate me, I'd never dream of posting on the web about it.

Postierich's mate probably just doesn't know how to wash a bike properly, I bet.

As the perpetrator of this terrible crime I feel it's time to break my silence. I have sat back and listened to all that's been said here, I've laughed, I've cried....hell, I've been through the whole range of emotions, and don't get me wrong I love my bikes, but I have to end it here and now with the following comment:

get a life beardy weirdy

I lent my mate a bike for a whole winter of Cannock chase grit and slime. He replaced a couple of bits that were eaten and brought my nipper a nice little pink camel back. Bargain.

And it was clean upon return.

I love the way postie puts this on a public forum instead of confronting him in person. What does that say about you?

You give coy clues to his name but you never once said that you complained directly to him man to man and told him why you were unhappy.

Bit of a coward??

The OPs attitude sounded totally precious to me.

hosed down but dryed streaky mud all over the thing.Failed to lube and generally looking tatty.
Sounds rather picky and precious

FFS - its just a bike!
Tj you sounds just like the other half, she has just complained that they are still drying in the kitchen and can I move them she needs to dry some clothes!!!! NO.

Now to finish off, the person in question has broken his silence "beardy weirdy get a life" I would just like to say I have in my opinion nice bikes that have been put together with a lot of thought and cost and has caused me to have countless arguments and having to go without other normal things in life. I am but a simple man with few pleasures but my bikes are one of them and I will lend/help anybody that is in need untill they abuse that offer of help, you RichieBoy have crossed that line and yes I will stand you a drink when we meet up again but borrow any of my "steeds" NFC.

Rich 🙄

I love a muddy bike.

[img] [/img]

If I were to lend it out, and it didn't come back having been thrashed, I'd be disappointed that they didn't get the fullest out of it.

😀

Thanks RB

If RudeBoy had used my bike I'd be more concerned with what he got up to on it...is there any trace of vasoline on the saddle?

I blame Thatcher etc yawn.

Any anyway, why would anyone want to ride a Royal Mail bicycle, maybe RudeBoy went on a undercover Union sortie to root out the scabs. 🙄
