Anyone up for an STW group ride?

Obviously timings/dates/route negotiable but provisionally:

Meet at Leeds station at 10am on Sunday 12th February?

Plan to get the train out somewhere local (Bingley/Baildon/Shipley based on posts) and then a circular route and back on the train or ride home.

If you're based nearer the outgoing station obviously meet us there instead...

What about riding from Leeds Station?

Ok, just had a rethink, might be easier to start from somewhere with parking and a train station so we can all just ride off from the same place.

New Pudsey station?

Shipley would be better, IMO

Alright, suppose it depends where people are based, there are good routes out of both New Pudsey (Calverley) and Shipley (Baildon, Esholt). Let's be democratic about it...

Leeds 0
New Pudsey 1
Shipley 1

Anyone else?

GG, no sorry, it's all just knowledge stuff. PofW Park is just a few little tracks in the bushes, steps to ride down and other bits and bods. Across Park Road onto the main track into Gilstead Moor take a steep path on the right which climbs to the top of the moor (you can get to the same point thru the houses in Eldwick), explore the tracks around the top of the moor, over towards the masts etc, there's a few good techy bits, worth including in a ride around shipley glen.

It also sounds like there's going to be some new mtb trails built in Bingley this year.

It's 15 years since I rode those trails, so if anyone's organising a wee ride I might come along if I'm free if that's OK.

Certainly, no point organising something brutal for the first one or no-one will come to the second!

Looking like Sunday 12th February at the moment, with a general consensus of Aire Valley for location, no consensus on actual start point though!

I am pretty busy for the next few weekends, but would definitely look at hooking up in the future.

Sunday 12th is good for me, and I've finally given up and put gears back on my bike, so might be able to keep up slightly better (fitness is the only issue now!). Pudsey or Leeds station are both fine for me (I'm in Armley). I'm also often around on fridays as I'm a dirty shift worker, so if anyone wants to meet for a ride let me know...

Rode my route yesterday.

Trains were playing up so ended-up riding up and down Hollins Hill from Guiseley.

Buck woods was good fun, couldn't work out how to get from the big pipes through the sewage works so ended up riding back to the swing bridge and Sancho's techy path down the river. Very nice.

Played about in Esholt woods for a bit, but didn't have the time to stay for long. I'll be back as it was one of the two highlights of the ride. Hacked all the way round through the woods to the railway crossing, then rode a bit of stuff on the other side before emerging in a field near the bottom of Yeadon. Thanks to the Community Support Officer for looking the other way as I lifted mike bike over the gate.

Road drag up to the BMX track was torture with 4-inches of mud on my tyres! BMX track was fun. Couldn't work out the cheeky path in front of the airport so roaded-it round the back. Leeds Country Way over to King Lane was mainly uneventful, but Breary Marsh was the only hardpack of the day. Decided better of floor-shoring the disabled path...

King Lane to Adel Jumps was muddy, but worth the reward. Tearing myself away from my first visit to Adel Jumps as the sunlight faded and I was still miles from home was torture. Adel Woods was hub-deep and not very enjoyable. MVT was welcome only for the drier ground.

Chocolate-covered flapjack and a Jet Wash for me and the bike in Far-Headingley before air-drying myself down Otley road. Aggressive slalom between the shoppers down Albion Street and Briggate trying to beat sun down. 25 miles later back home.

Great post bspoked, I used to ride from Lovell Park to Gateway on a daily basis and remember the 'shopper slalom' down Vicar Lane well. Recently went on the Blackpool BMX track, which was a good laugh on my old XC bike, so I'll have to check out the one at Yeadon.

Me and nammynake (Ian) out on a night ride tomorrow, probably meeting at Valley Inn, Drighlington at 7pm. Taking in Tong and Black Carr Woods (near Bankhouse Pub). Join in if you're nearby.

lemonysam - if you were posting that yesterday re: our Drig ride, then we're riding tonight, Thursday 2nd Feb 2012 19:00 hours, and you're welcome to join us. Any other takers?

Mark,
Cheers for that but I went out last night for a blast round Esholt, Yeadon, Airport, Bramhope, Chevin and home. It was a good first ride out for my new hardtail.

I'd not ridden the airport path before, that was a surreal experience.

Esholt has some sweet new stuff dug just above the sewage works and has some super steep tech on the other side. (used to be a favourite for the trials bikes)

Whereabouts exactly is this?

^^ Up past St Leonards farm turn right into the coach park, through the style at the end. Follow the obvious track and the new downhill stuff is to the left and right of the track as you climb.

It's more obvious on the left, if you get to a wall on the right you've gone too far as I remember it.

I don't think I got any takers for the STW group ride on 12th Feb in Leeds, plus I'm going to the Dark and White event in Hope Valley that day now. If anyone was interested, from my point of view it's cancelled, so I'm sorry about that.

Definitely interested in getting a ride organised soon though, watch this space!

I regularly ride Baildon Moor / Shipley Glen from Saltaire if anyone wants to join me. Tend to leave around 9am on Saturday morning. Can be a bit boggy so mud tyres essential. Ride generally takes around 2 hours....
