It's not really that hard, is it?? ๐ณ
Wisnae me
makes sense! lol not been on hear long tho and not good with the txt talk.
anyway the tandem! did anyone else see it. looked like and orange 5 swingarm ? and was painted orange
What's a tandum?
I was there and think they are the true hero's/nutjobs of the event. Mind you I'm still reeling from getting caught on the dh by the guy with the prosthetic leg he'd had to duct tape to his pedal(another hero)
a tandem is a bicycle made for two.
max respect to the guy with the fake leg!!!!

That was my mate Stu. His foot came out of his toe-clip on is first DH run and he lost time putting it back in, so he got me to tape his foot to the pedal before his second run. I wasn't sure but he insisted. Seemed to do the trick but there must be a better solution!
what a guy. is he local ive seen a guy fitting his discription up there a couple month back
Someone else. He was at Lee Quarry for the first time the weekend before the Weekender.
I had serious tandem envy when I saw it! They were ace. In fact the whole thing was ace. I haven't done many races but that one was a proper shove beyond the comfort zone and it was good to do. ๐
This frame?
I know nowt about it other than finding it on google on stw
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/wanted-parts-for-a-mtb-tandem
IIRC none of the standard full sus tandems use this sort of swingarm
Seen this outside wilfs (staveley) a few months ago, looks ace. Fairplay on getting down the dh track on it. Missed the weekender this year, sounds like a good one
yes thats the one!!!! anyone got a pic of this beut built up?
Stu did a cracking ride in the xc right up to and including the point where he showboated with a front wheel endo thing on the finish line and went over the bars! :0D
they were heros, and a heroine, was a young lass who was in the second seat, and her Dad up front ! fantastic effort. Did anyone else see them on the climb ? They almost made it (and I think only 2 or 3 did).
Top weekend.
Yep, I was stood there when Stu came in and somehow (I blinked and missed it!) flipped over the bars!
Enjoy the Mega Simon ๐
๐ I got a text from Stu earlier he didn't mention going OTB at the finish!
Bike and kit is all ready for the Mega. The rider is not so ready ๐ ๐
they got wiped out on lap 1 of the xc too when the rider in front stopped and they tumbled sideways down the slope - both appeared unhurt and they did finish 3 laps....
It's my dad and my sister. Here's some photos of it built up:

He's too shy to join in.
Shy! never, how are your cuts and bruises?
I saw it there! Fantastic effort...don't know whether I'd want to be up front or on the back for that drop into the arena section
Well done to your Dad and sis....
They came off pretty unscathed from that tumble, if a little irritated by the guy in front (I don't think it was deliberate on his part). Sister was chuffed with position as first junior girl!
i was marshalling at the top of the drop into the bowl for the DH race, and the look on her face as they approached it was priceless. she looked absolutely terrified!
She claimed she had her eyes shut. Then again, so did my dad!
What is the frame? is it a custom build? never seen one like it before. Looks really nice
It's a 2002 (I think) Patriot swing-arm with a brazed steel front 'triangle'. It's a bit flexy, but it hasn't broken yet. My friend was riding the back and he swore I was going in different directions to him. My dad built the frame.
I've only just seen your post Rich - I'm a bit sore, but taking that tape off was much more painful that the original impact!
The Totems on the front were a very lucky afterthought. I've already tacoed one front rim!
There was a funny moment on the steps trail where someone asked can you not lift the front wheel ๐
Stuart's totally fearless. Having a wooden leg doesn't make a jot of difference to him ๐ Apart from not being able to stand up to pedal.
It does make the rest of look a bit spineless though because he'll tackle owt ๐
If anyone's got a spare 10 grand, he can get a really cool leg with a Fox shock that will mean he can stand up and pedal.
Singletrackworld engineering types step forward...
Wasn't at the wwekender, but
a) obvious troll is obvious
b) Stuart has my respect just hearing about him
c) I WANT THAT TANDEM
I was just in front of the tandem in the xc for some time on the first lap. If it was me on the white Mount Vision then please give your dad and sis my humble apologies for being such a crap rider ๐ณ
Stavromuller, thanks, if it was you do not worry, we were unscathed and these things happen, the stoker was laughing about it.
thay should hold a dh only event some time. then we can see what speeds the course can be done at. although there were some fast guys compromises had to be made because of the xc race.
Disagree. That course wouldn't have been any (if at all) faster on a full on DH bike.
i would like to see it done by a decent dh rider and see. i think it would be faster. not loads faster but 15-20 seconds faster. got to be aint it ? and if plp wer all on full dh bikes then the course could be a lot diffrent
It would also be missing the whole point of the event..
There were a lot of decent DH riders there.
And the course couldn't be too much different... the existing trails use the drop as best they can. Building a 'proper' downhill track there would be difficult as the terrain is shallow drops followed by flat bits. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think theres a lot of vertical drop.
Setting off from the far end of Cragg quarry onto nice little trail with a few kickers down to Lee quarry and doing the red around the outside of Lee Quarry and the usual way down to the car park is a decent long (ish) run.
I'll be doing it tomorrow.
Not strictly downhill, bit of uphill in the middle. Fun though.
