I've aquired an old leather saddle, but it's in need of alot of TLC.
I was going to clean and paint the steel rails but wasn't sure of what to do with the leather. Its old and worn/dry.
Someone has suggested to soak some dubbin? into it?
I don't know anything about the saddle, google hasn't found anything. However on the sides are embosed 'Excel made in england'
Has any one restored leather and is it worth it?
In the days before leather saddles became the precious possessions of the retro mob, we would use just about anything.
Dubbin is good, or clear shoe polish, especially on the underside. Many of us used 3-in-1 oil - just a few drops rubbed in once a week on bikes that were used in all weathers.
However, I'm sure there is some expensive and exotic modern product that will do the job. ๐
Brooks sell "Proofide".
I use Sno-Seal (coz that's what I use on my leather walking boots).
Saddle soap?
neatsfoot oil its for softening horsey stuff(its brilliant) ๐
