Tommy V climbing at the head of a group is a thing of beauty!

Seriously?

I can't stand Tommy V for some reason... I always quietly hope a wasp will fly into his mouth mid gurn.

So Astana are on the front doing all the work while the entire Sky train just tag their wheels. I'm guessing it's not going to end well for Astana...

If only there were some sort of precedent...

that Basso story is unreal, hell of a lucky break catching the cancer so early on a routine scan for a crash injury

Bluff by Astana IMO.. Only thing they have left is Fuglsang and after yesterdays arms flapping by him to Nibbs I'm not too sure there isn't a bit of angst between them. They're riding there to be protected by Sky if anything.

As is Pinot is turning Noir.

I was waiting for the opportunity to say Pinot looks Gris but you win!

Can Nibali stick it to Vino today? Who knows. Lets hope so!

Can SKY develop a pure climber in to a GC contender/ super domestique? Looks like slimming down strong men is more their framework for success. Sad to see Konig come to a standstill

Good outcome. Unpleasant to hear Sean Kelly say "squashed testicle".

Konig

His work done for the day.

From cyclingnews:

'Warren Barguil is fighting hard to get back. He's about a minute down on the group of favourites at the moment. He passes Uran along the way'

He's taking the p*ss

But Konig's an excellent rouleur, classics and week long races are his thing, chasing safety pins of Froomie not really his style. I'd like to see him, Poels, Eisel, Knees and Nordhaug form a semi classics squad with week long and one/two day races in mind. Not too sure why Sky missed out Nieve in this TdF, mans a superb climber and damn fine domi' but they don't need him I guess, but he does know how to climb and pace for sure.

Hows TommyV's dribble coming along?

Nibbles definitely fancies it today, no doubt about that. I suspect an attack on the descent is going to happen with a view to holding it the other side.

Not sure Nibbles fancies it - I think he has little choice.

He ca probably beat Froome on a descent so he's going to have to.

Possibly a face saving stage win rather than a true GC attack.

I was just on the phone - what was that replay of Froome alongside elbow to elbow with someone about?

do sky really need to be driving this bunch ?

surely easier to sit in and only ride if somebody tries to break ?

If it's bit I think it was then he was shooting the breeze with Thomas. And yes descending through the town was a thing of beauty

Looks like Pauwels is done, shame.

Oooh here comes Martin. Don't think he'll catch Majka but he did go past Pauwels at quite a lick. Looks like he's giving it everything though. Not steep enough to make up 1:30 in 2.5k though.

Great ride by Dan Martin. Hopefully he'll have something for the Alps too.

Bit dull all that in the end.

What was Dan Martin playing at? He seemed to miss the initial move, bust a gut to get into it, then miss the winning attack and bust a gut to come second. I really rate him as a rider but today seemed a lot of effort for little reward.

Yep, bit dull in the end, Martin rode very oddly, Maijka ride well the the win, the GC contenders just sat and spun.

Who knows, maybe feels he had something to prove today. I guess it just shows how hard it can be if things aren't going your way.

Should be a good one tomorrow. A big one for the GC boys. Can Quintana and Contador challenge?

Suspect it'll be a really bad day for Nibali if he can't keep up on a cat 3 climb at the end of a fairly steady day for the GC group.

I agree. Why expend all that energy for nothing when he could have saved himself for tomorrow's stage and maybe achieved something? I think it was probably because he knows today's stage was all about the GC contenders taking it easy and going at it again tomorrow so he's just going to be looking at a lot of lycra-clad arses riding away from him.

Can anyone explain this kinda weird TdF highlights warning on itvPlaya, before I hit the play button?

Should I really be worried about bovines? 😯

It's policy innit. If there's anything on TV nowadays that might cause illness, or upset, they have to call it. Hence flashing lights / strobe, strong language, scenes that may cause upset.

Some people are scared of cows, hence their sudden appearance in the middle of an 80kph descent may cause difficulties to some.
