Incredibly classy rider RIP
๐
Chapeau Larent !!
Very sad - top rider and a fine fella. Life's just too damn harsh ๐ฅ
How very very sad. RIP
RIP
real shame if he is remembered for a close second, rather than the rest of his successes
Ah what? He was the first TDF rider I followed, and had an epic battle with Greg Lemond in the closest race in TDF history. And he had a strange air of 'cool' about him. I used to want glasses like his. And he rode a Raleigh, as I did at the time.
RIP. ๐ฅ
Dude had style.
He was young and carefree. Chapeau Laurent.
RIP Laurent. :o(
real shame if he is remembered for a close second, rather than the rest of his successes
Unfortunately that is my main residing memory of him, although I do remember him being a great rider, and seemingly a nice guy too.
RIP Laurent, and my thoughts to his family.
I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell you that he was a doped up cheat and it was his drug use that gave him cancer ๐
RIP.
A seemingly brutally honest man - wasn't afraid to speak the truth - even when talking about himself.
I too will remember him for that epic battle with Lemond in 89.
RIP.
I true great. Very sad news. I remember him wining two tours and loved his metallic blue Gitane bikes he used to ride. Just got his book and not yet had a chance to start it ๐
Yeah it's sad, I was a Lemond fan at the time but Fignon certainly brought some flair to cycling.
favourite of mine from that era.
Jeez he was only 50 ๐ฅ
chapeau. loved watching him in late 80's tours.
suspect view were and are all doped up.
๐ I thought he was recovering last I heard.

Au revoir Professeur RIP
Just heard on the news. Bugger ๐
The best end to a Tour de France ever, sad news.
Sad news. I remember seeing him on L'Alp D'Huez in 84, I was cheering for Robert Millar though.
RIP
That's very sad - 50! Jeez, 6 years older than me ๐ฏ
Chapeau Laurent, RIP.
RIP
Tragic at any age...but 50!!!!
Just shows, can happen to anyone. Live it to the full ladies and gents.
Great rider - Tour, Giro & Milan San Remo wins amongst many others in his palmares. He will be missed.
Great collection of images from his long career on l'equipe:
