i want a new rear tyre and was thinking either a larsen or advantage to go on the back of my inbred??

larsen 2.35 single ply 60a or
advantge 2.25 60a

which is best for rolling and grip?

how do they measure up size wise to a 2.35 high roller??

cheers

steve

rolling: larsen
grip advantage

the TT is the same size
the advantage is on the larger size of a HR.

ran a larsen through the winter on my inbred and it had enough grip in the mud most of the time - only changed it out as it was prone to clogging in the chainstays.

Advantage, the 2.25 is like a 2.4 and it's light for it's size.
At the right psi it's a good tyre.

I use a 2.1 advantage on the back, and its only a smidge smaller than the 2.35 hr on the front. I like it though, seems to roll well and grip well enough.

I did think about trying 2.25 advantage front and rear next

yeah run the kenda - neither the advantage or the tt are actually that fast rolling.

been riding a larsen 2.35 dual ply 60a on the rear of my bike. Super fast - locks up a bit easily though - be gentle on the brakes! gonna have it on my Megavalanche bike this year as long as it's not raining.

Ran the 2.1 Larsen exception this weekend on the rear. Forgot to remove it as its been raining but over the peaks it didnt give me so much as a squeek on loose rocks etc. I also feared the thin 'race only' carcass may rip etc. Nope.

Think I might keep it on there for now..

Ran a 2.35 (I think) Larsen today for the first time. Had lots of dry hot weather but sod me if it didn't rain this morning! It was fine in the muddy / rooty / slippy stone climbs and totally had enough grip for the techy descents. Noticable faster than a 2.35 HR 60a that it's replaced.

Ripped the sidewall on my 2.1 ADVantage last week. Think it was a small piece of flint that did it, but not 100% sure. Sidewalls are VERY thin (2.1 XC, folder). Also seem to puncture very easily - 2 punctures and a ripped sidewall on one ride - boo!

Maxxis Swampthing 2.35 60a compound, only need single ply up front.

i've been running an Advantage 2.4 60a on the rear since october last year. i took it off last week to preserve it before our trip. roughly half worn. still performs faultlessly.

had one puncture in that time. alot use has been on road as i ride to the trails and i can say it rolls well there too.

can't comment on the Larsen but i don't think you can go wrong with either.

I've got a 2.35 HR LUST upfront. Love the grip but it doesn't cut the mustard here tubeless. I lasted about a week before I ripped the sidewall. Can't afford new tires until they're worn out so I'm running it with tubes at the moment.

Just dont buy an Exception series one. I know I know- its race only. Two rides, just two rides- 1.5hrs in Hebden and 3.5hrs on the Peaks and the sidewalls are utterly ruined- I spotted the innertube sticking out as well thread showing round.

No such problems here, mine seem to be holding up pretty well. They don't do a 2.25 Exception though so it's probably not relevant anyway.

I've been running a 2.1 exception advantage on the front for about 6 months now (mainly around rivington + some peaks) Running it tubeless, Some thread is starting to show but keeps pressure okay. Don't think they're that fragile

Check your sidewalls though. Im by no means an aggressive rider so was abit surprised to see the sidewall wear. plus as its a thin un I wasnt running the tyre on low pressures etc. Seamus look for signs of the thread pattern showing through in diagnol-lines similar to how conti's normal pattern is (if that makes sense).

Great tyre though. I have a 2.35 folding 60a Larsen under my desk. Thats going on in its place 😀

Just dont want anyone to be stuck anywhere unnecessarily!
