Looking for some large volume 29er tyres for a bit of touring, mostly on-road but with a bit off.

Anyone have any experience of the following?

Schwalbe Big Apple - 2.35 £24.99 each
On-one BSC Type 1 - 2.30 £19.99 each
Geax Tattoo - 2.30 £9.99 each
Maxxis Hookworm - 2.50 £?

For touring I would go with scwhalbe marathon supreme 28 x 2.0, they roll a lot better than those suggestions, and can be run tubeless.

Yes. Been using them for a few years on and off road.

Brilliant tyres, you can go howling into fast downhill negative camber corners without worrying about grip. Bit more care needed offroad. 🙂

Marathons are generally slow rolling.

I've tried 2.0 Apples, Vittoria Randonneur 35mm, WTB Nano2.1 and Marathon XR on my Fargo. Aside from winter gloopy slime, the Big Apples are the best of the bunch for me.

If it's not heavy duty and you like a bit of speed, look at the Schwalbe Super Motos.

Yeah, the supremes don't really fit in with the marathon family.

Thanks for all input folks.

Not much heavy duty touring, most of the time will just be unloaded day runs on tarmac, gravel and some trails.

Most reviews of the marathon supreme comment on how well they roll, but maybe a bit too slick for off road duties? Big apples seem to cope quite well according to most, but quite a bit heavier than the supremes.

vondally - how much you thinking for the big apples?

Probably worth reading this first

Schwalbe balloon tyres

The extra volume of the 2.35" is considerable compared to the 2". It won't fit in places that a 2.35" Racing Ralph will go, and that is one of the biggest 2.35" tyres around.

It's really worth having the extra volume if you want to ride offroad IMO.

If you're weight conscious, the Super Motos at 2.35" are 680gms. I'll be trying them next when I wear out the BAs.

The Marathon Mondials go up to a 2" and have a decent bit more tread than the Supreme. I've been using the 1.75" version for road/light off-road use.

Thanks vondally - but I'll hold out for a pair of 2.35's or some super moto. I've got the room for big tyres, so be as well using it.
