I've just almost finished assembling a Ridley SLS alloy frameset.
I went to fit the front mech only to find a largish dent where the mech should go.
The band of the mech wont fit as the dent's squashed it a bit.
The dent is smooth, no cracking or chipping. I reckon by fitting a longer bolt in the mech clamp I could re shape it, then fit the right bolt.
Do that or get a replacement.
Problem with your plan is if your [s]bodge[/s] engineering solution doesn't work, they have an excuse to not honor the warranty. I'd at least speak to the vendor first and get their opinion. If they say, yeah try that and send it back if it doesn't work, crack on.

I'd say if you've almost finished building it then it may prove difficult convincing them it wasn't you who dented it.....maybe.

I have downed tools until I get an answer.
Wish I had spotted it, but it's gloss black and hard to see. The packaging was absolutely perfect, shame I gave the bin men the box there and then.

Shame it was so hard to spot, even when I found it my lad couldn't see it.
My SLT has a dent in the same spot. It looks like its supposed to be there like a chainstay dent for clearance. But I'm not entirely sure. I'll take a pic tonight.

Carl I built up a bike with a new frame in the summer and it had a dent there so quite sure its meant to be there, not sure what its for though.
It looks like where a direct mount front mech would sit only minus the screw hole/fix point. :-\

Yep meant to be there. It was a bit squished though and I had to find a longer bolt as the mech wouldn't fit the tube correctly. Tightening up the mech re shaped the tube so I could fit the right bolt afterwards.
The 'dent' is for clearance.
