Anyone removed the cups from the stock Mindset? If so just reassure me they're as perfectly normal as I assume they must be, and that by removing the lower cup I can just use an IS-6 cartridge bearing between the head tube and the fork crown. (Stuff what I has read on that there Internet suggests this should, probably, be that case - but it doesn't seem overly confident.)
Reason being that they have a large internal diameter, meaning my cup removal tool just goes straight through. I hammered a wedge up the middle of it to splay it wide enough to catch, but the inner profile of the head tube and the outer profile of my tool are such that it still doesn't get enough purchase. The one remaining option I appear to have is to fit an expansion ring from an aheadset up behind the lower cup, and use that as a sort of drift shim so I can smack it through with the tool. I've run this over in my mind a few times and it seems to be a perfectly fine solution. But for some reason I still can't quite bring myself to click it into the point of no return, since if it doesn't go to plan there's no other exit strategy and I'll look a right charlie.
