So this is going to be my Summer of Lakes riding as I want to give the Peaks a rest! I did Nan Bield yesterday and loved it.
Other recommendations? I heard Black Sail pass is good?
On the list is natural Grizedale and a revisit to Ullswater singletrack.
Others?
Iron Keld/Oxen Fell/Tilberthwaite/Little Langdale/Loughrigg.
Lonscale Fell and Back of Skiddaw
What OS map ref are those? and/or- is there aroute I can download to follow?
Best way is probably to buy the VG guide. Has both in.
The one in this month's magazine (Walna Scar from Torver via Seathwaite) is also a nice one.
Ah will do. VG got me started in the Peaks too 🙂
Cheers - will look up the Walna route- is it still sanitised? I rode it 5yrs ago before it was.
Still a bit, but funner near the top, and you turn off before it gets properly boring. Descent to seathwaite is the really good one.

DAMN what time did you do it ?
Did it as well and Garburn pass after yesterday - we were out at about 9 for Nan bield - we set off from kentmere mind.
Happy to give you a tour of natural Grizedale and will message you as in the lakes a fair bit these days.
I started in Kentmere at about 7.30am. Did you see the wildcamping 4x4's?
Should tick off borrowdale bash if you come to keswick, it's lovely, and a good foul weather option if the high routes are a bit wild. Sticks pass descent to glenridding should be on your list too.
We saw them descending the cut up road at the start of the start if the brutal climb - about half way up we met them....we were happy to give way and rest
Ullock Pike is a must do IMHO but it is a footpath
Ullock- will do.
At their campsite they gave me some water to drink 🙂
(Stupidly I'd put my 3lt camelbak with Torq powder into the freezer as I hadn't used it the week before/didn't want to waste it. It was still frozen at the end of the ride...) Newbieerror#234.)
The stuff around Grizedale/Hawkshead/Satterthwaite/Claife Heights is among my favourite riding in the UK. Never far from a cafe stop either which is even better!
The vg book is good.
Done a few from it now.
Loughrigg/ironkeld route was a stand out one for me.
Did one of the grizdale routes yesterday. Great route, some really lovely technical singletrack but.....
Didn't think the directions were that clear which was a little annoying, and parking was £7...
We did the Back 'o' Skiddaw route last weekend. For a biffa that ain't been out on the bike much it was hard work! However, it did seem to be the time of year to do it as I think it would be boggy otherwise. Really stunning part of the Lakes and hardly a sole about (bar a single grumpy walker).

Did you include the Caldbeck Fells?Spent a few days in the Lakes last week and had 3 morning rides of around 4-5hrs riding out of Skelwith 😆 These included most of the above.
Roughly......
Day 1... Arnside/Ironkeld, Hodge Close, Tlberthwaite, Little Langdale, Loughrigg to Ambleside/Skelwith
Day2.... Ambleside, Jenkyns Cragg, Troutbeck, Garburn Pass, Staveley, High Borrans, Dubbs Rd, Troutbeck and back to Ambleside via Jenkyns.
Day3...Claife and Grizdale bridle ways and back over Ironkeld/Arnside for the last time 😆
bar a single grumpy walker
Another topic but I wouldn't suffer a grumpy walker whether I'm on a footpath or not. The Lakes is huge. Its hardly inconveniencing them especially if you pull over, show preference to them.
Its hardly in the same league as riding on a pavement either.... I say this as I did some cheek' yesterday to avoid the Harter fell descent to Haweswater...
The vg book is good
Forgive my ignorance, but what is this book?

How do you stop them being grumpy?
Hora has numerous methods at his disposal to make people laugh ....some are even intentional 😉
I find a bit of fishtailing followed by an OTB always lightens the mood.
Regarding the VG book, it's possible to buy a PDF version. It's much better if you haven't a gps and want a print out of the routes instead of carrying the book with you.
Some of the riding around Lonscale Fell could prove disappointing if you've travelled far, and most rides around there don't take 4 hours.
The Boggy's Dunnerdale route is a cracker: http://www.bogtrotters.org/route/showrouteframe.php?route=35
Cheers 🙂
