Here's my photo blog of the same ride, albeit starting from Langstrath. Absolutely amazing ride, one of the best in the lakes and I'm more than happy to show you round if you ever end up this way!

You won't sing though will you ?
that all depends on how quickly the OP learns to read a map
Awesome pics as ever jb.
That full descent from Esk Hause is just tremendous, I must've done it 4 or 5 times last year, canny get enough of it....

Agreed Dave. Best (legal one) in the Lakes IMO
Just to make you feel a bit worse weeksy I'm not sure you've got the tech skills for some of these routes. ๐
High gnar factor in some places.
Top tip: don't read a compass standing next to an old iron fence ๐ณ
Map reading is easy, it's folding the f-ers up neatly in the howling wind that's a black art!

LOL thanks mate ๐
Remind me again, who crashed into the tree at BPW ?
Looks, umm rocky....not going to be much fun on my lickle hardtail is it.

That's not tech gnar though - you just wait!
It's a fine excursion, imho better to start in borrowdale and go direct to Angle tarn from the top of Stake pass, descent and re ascent a wasted effort.
re. map skills - go out for a walk in the hills with an OS map and compass to practice.
easier to pick it up at walking pace and less faff than on the bike.
Personally think the descent of Stake to Mickleden is a cracker. The carry up Rossett is a bit brutal but is soon over.
Here are the pics, worked out flickr.....
Langstrath: west side is an easier/less fiddly way to Stake pass, especially when frosty like this:IMG_0959 by Tom Blakely, on Flickr
Stake pass climb out of Langstrath. Like a trail centre surface, but the hairpins are too tight to ride without trials skills (which I lack). Very easy height gain for the Lakes, no carrying.

Near esk hause shelter, looking towards Great end and Gable, the start of the big descent.....

These photos were in January, the Lakes can be stunning any time of year!
