Between Grasmere and Buttermere - anyone done Lining Crag? Did it last week and it was great. Just wondered if anyone has a good route that doesn't involve pushing up for hours from Grasmere. Ta.

You mean Greenup Edge - Grasmere to Borrowdale.
Been up it - not good
Can get there cheeky style from Blew Tarn to the north, or from Stake Pass to the south.
Good short loop I guess would be Borrowdale, Langstrath, up Stakes, south too Greenup and descend.
Section from Stakes isn't great though.

Theres loads of routes from Grasmere wi,I prefer Greenup edge / Lining crag as a climb, and the decent into Grasmere, return either Stakes pass or north along the back road to Thirlmere.

Box - think you're right, maybe it's known as Greenup Edge. Superb descent - gone straight into my top 3 UK ones. So is the route from Stake to the top of this descent rideable or a push? Anything has to be better than the ride/carry up from Grasmere.

GaV - reckon I'll do it in reverse sometime too. Top section down into Grasmere would have been ace, then presumably it's a case of picking your way along the rock garden to Grasmere itself - tough but doable, and slightly easier than going up from Grasmere?

Stakes pass is a push carry in either direction wi, buts best done from the track North of the river in the Langstrath valley towards the Rossett valley, awesome descent..

Cheers for that. I actually did Stake in both directions last week - bit dull down the zig-zags to Langstrath but mint in the other direction. I reckon I'll have to try that route from Stake to Greenup sometime.
