Going to be in the Lake Garda area in a couple of weeks. Was looking to select a good spot for some bike hire and camping for a day or two while we are there.

I Gather the north end of the lake is the best spot for this?

Anyone any recommendations? I found this site but you have to book for a full week to get a spot:

Anyone any other tips?

EDIT Just reread the link I posted and its a 4 day minimum booking so I might just go for there.

Barry, I have been on that site, its good. Close to everything, Mecci's Bike and coffee is close by, safe beach for swimming. Just gets very busy!

Can bike out to the cable car uplift to mt Baldo and the epic descent back to Riva. Also can get shuttles to Mt Tremalzo (spelling), and cycle back into the site.

We had a great holiday there.

Hire a speed boat for half a day. Prices aren't bad, and it's great fun. I know you can hire from Garda and Limone, maybe other places too.

Garda and San Sebastian are the most gorgeous places I've ever been.

Rick - Did you book ahead or just roll up to camp?

Cheers Guys

I don't think its and issue to roll up. They are used to windsurf bums.

Torbole rocks. Some pretty challenging trails around. 601 being fairly 'intense'. The Tremalzo uplift is great

We booked as we knew it was going to be full blown holiday time. Rolled up and had to wait for the people to clear the spot. If you know when your going to be there, booking doesnt hurt. There is also another campsite down a little track, north of the Lake. If I remember its on the way to the slabs and climbing area closer to Arco but its less picturesque.

The 601 is indeed a brilliant trail. Just found my bike specific map, M50k 001 sold in the shops, has a load of trails already marked up.

Also a German guidebook, Moser or somesuch. We found it frustrating as its bike nav in micro detail...

The German one is ok. Just look for Ubertechnicale. So many trails around there. Rocky. Great coffee and Gelato.
