I'll be staying near troutbeck bridge on Windermere late April for a week with the missus and our two young children. Been given the all clear to take the bike but my riding time will be limited to 2-3 hour sessions when our lad is having his afternoon nap.
Any help on local loops from this area would be appreciated. If I don't have to use the car even better.
Not ridden anything in the lakes before, but I'm from the edge of the Peak District and mainly ride steep natural trails so hoping to keep away from bridle ways.
Thanks in advance
You could easily put together a 2/3 hour loop from the door involving Jenkin Crag/Loughrigg Fell or Garburn pass into Kentmere and back out via Borrins.
Grab a map or the Vertebrate Graphics guide. Lakes BWs aren't that bad, normally.
Err, bridleways are natural trails 😆
There's plenty of loops from Staveley which is ten minutes drive away but you could do the Garburn Pass loop starting at TB. Similarly there's plenty of variations on the Loughrigg, Iron Keld, Tilberthwaite area. Check the Pedalnorth site for routes and GPX downloads.
Up through the caravan Park and over garburn natch. If you're shifting you could get over green quarter and maybe sneak a pint of hawkshead gold in staveley
Thanks guys, I'll have a look at these. Might get an OS map and do some studying so I'm fully prepped.
Bonus points for pubs on route too, although your going to get me into serious trouble.
Any other ideas for anything else within a short drive (30mins) if I do manage to talk myself into an afternoon off?
