As well as the physio I’m planning an extensive stay fit process and then a lot of road or gravel rides.
Any exercises I can do without the knackered leg? Also to strength later apart from calf raises what can I do?

Need a large rd or gravel bike for winter miles and summertime smiles

Oh no!
I also saw the mountain rescue report on Facebook... and thought it might be someone on here!
I’ve also Ruined myself on the plantation descent. Went otb lower down and opened up my knee. Got me a night in the northern general as well.
You’re in good hands there...
Healing vibes...

It uses more calories walking with crutches than it does without, so ‘when you are able’
Get up and about.
I was aware after about 3 weeks that i could flex the muscle on the front of my shin that pulls the foot up, without pain, so i did a fair bit of that.
Be careful on the crutches, i was on quite a lot of codeine, and i fell a couple of times because i was sort of halfway over before i realised anything was happening.
Take pictures, they can be a good way of looking back, i lost about half the muscle mass in the affected leg, but it has grown back.

As if by magic.
Just went on FB and it showed me a memory of the first time I managed to get my skates on after the accident, 16 july 2018, 6.5 months after it. I remember that I didn’t feel too confident on the ice, but I managed anyway.
The first ride picture i can find is 11th march, so that was around 9 weeks after the accident, I remember being quite pleased with that, as i was non weight bearing for 6 weeks.
I distinctly remember feeling weak, and careful.
Probably worth mentioning that every time I went out on my bike, my leg felt stronger and less painful the next day. It happened a few times before I connected the dots of course.
Anyway, if I remember anything else that might help, I’ll stick it up here.

Sounds good. Hope it's not too bad. I will say again talk to fit for physio about exercises, riders and great physios, would be worth a few quid. It's what all the pros would be doing.

I know you in real life don’t I?

Not sure? Possible in Sheffield...
Most people I meet out on the trails for the first time say “oh I’ve seen a picture of your knee”
It’s on this strava ride if you’re not too squeamish. I never posted it in any other social media so only cyclists get to see it...

Broke my tib and fib about 15 years ago on the Dyfi Enduro.
Took a while to get back on the bike but made a 100% recovery, take it easy and listen to the doctors.
Use the free time to do something else, I learnt the guitar andAutoCad.

@bikerevivesheffield

Me, currently recuperating from a fractured tibia.

I'd like to recommend that your missus and yourself use separate (single) duvets in bed. You don't want your wife to roll over in bed and wrench your leg to the side!

I bought some Gordon Ellis bed-risers a while back as a way to cram my guitar cases under my bed. They also make it far easier to get in and out of bed.

It won't hurt to stock up on a load of kitchen towels (the blue printed stuff tends not to disintegrate) and some alcohol-based mouthwash (for its antibacterial properties) and keep it next to your bed for cleaning your hands.

Get well soon😛

First night done, cocodamol before sleep. Stairs are hard - bedroom on 2nd floor - loo on first floor - first tears of frustration have flowed. Pain is very real but bearable

You will improve v quickly at this stage, not healing exactly, but youll get more used to moving on crutches.
I live in a 3rd floor flat, 30 miles away from the hospital, so I easily had plenty of time to start feeling uncomfortable before we got home.
I ended up shuffling up the stairs on my bum.

Can I ask - what happened to your bike? Did the mountain rescue keep it for you?

Stairs are hard

If you've not been told, go up leading with your good foot, down with the bad (good foot to heaven, bad foot to hell).

I broke the end of my fibula in Morzine 2005. I was riding the next day- I thought I had just sprained my ankle.

After a few weeks and it was still painful, the gp suggested it was broken and I was in a back splint for 4 weeks.

Heal well.

Brief update - reality is kicking in 😢 watching my kids and wife off to play football in the park, not being able to get up to do anything quickly, lots of swearing and tears, pain I’ve never experienced coupled with cancelling customers - all pretty rubbish.
Positives - so many - people just being ace, my family, my new found drive to get this shot sorted.
I’m up for trying any method to get better well and get better quickly, never been a quitter but this is a whole new me, no self pity, just gonna sort shit out.

Opportunity to take a different view on my business And plan to grow and improve it, review what’s going well and how I can adapt, get the paper side sorted, finish off my professional development stuff for now. So many things!!

Anyway off to make lists!! Speak soon
