Hi,

Myself and a couple of friends are considering a trip to La Palma in March, and had a few questions if anyone has been or knows the area.

The trail map and uplift/taxi service on the lapalmafreeride.com website looks very interesting, and could potentially facilitate riding without a guide.

If anyone has used this service, was it easy to get picked up at the end of the trails? Do they take you to the trail head, or do you have to find the trail yourself? Are the trails marked, or easy to follow?

We're not shy of doing some pedalling or map reading to make options work, and the trails look to be worth it.

Currently looking at staying in Los Llanos.

Any help or suggestions much appreciated!

Cheers,
Lawrence

Yep went last year. We stayed up the hill in El Paso.

I did get some riding in and the trails (at least the ones I did!) Were absolutely awesome. There are 2 fantastic dh runs (6 mins descending) above el paso, one on either side, and also other more natural feeling )but still some berms) runs down from refugio el Pilar (15 mins descending)

I didn't use an uplift as it was a family holiday, so I was riding early, local to our accommodation, out before sunrise. The climbs were bloody brutal!

I found the best way to get routes without a guide was to look up interesting segments on strava, look up the fast locals, and see what they were riding. Worked very well! If you post up ur email I will try to sort some gpx out for you if I get time

Ps drove through Los Lanos, seemed ok. I think El Paso was better situated for riding out of the door, though.

Thanks el beaufador for the comments, good to hear the trails are good.

La palma freeride have published a map with plenty of trails on, but a bit of Strava stalking might occur to see if there's any less advertised gems worth exploring!
