Considering buying a Unit 29er - are they any good? I've not used a 29er before but fancy giving it a go. It'll be mainly used as a commuter with occasional offroad jaunts.
Cheers
Matt
i had one as a ride/race MTB and really quite enjoyed it, so not sure how it would fare as a commuter
I use my Kona Big Unit for my daily commute with no issues. My route is either 7 miles or 10 miles depending on how much time I've got.
I run it with Maxxis Ikon 2.2 tyres all the time so I can take in a few offroad tracks when the mood takes me.
That raw finish above is lovely.
Amplebrew - do you use any panniers if so what?

No I use a Berghaus rucksack which carries:
* couple of inner tubes
* tyrelevers
* pump
* multi tool
* head torch (incase of mechanicals on unlit roads during early hours)
* overshoes
* trousers
* shirt
* towel
I used to use a touring bike with panniers, but to be honest it was an overkill for the route; a ruck sack is fine for 10 miles.
My Kona is faster over the route than the touring bike.
It's my only "proper" MTB. In the past 12 months I've raced it three times, ridden Afan and Cwmcarn, and Swinley regularly. Not used it on the road (except in the snow) as the gearing really is too low for the road.
I love mine, but I don't have anything to compare with. For a commuter, you will need to change the gearing, but the geometry is excellent.
that 2013 unit is really nice..
when will they be available??
I've had 3 and commuted without issue
My commute does take in some singletrack in the wood though
One of the best 29ers IMO
