is happening now in austria
anyone have any info?
Kona rep advised me to wait for the new line before purchasing a long travel 29er from anyone else ( or even a 2017 111 or 153)
the process range also gets a new linkage apparently
just gotta find a way to pay for it...
As a Kona fanboy (I sometimes wonder why occasionally, but they do some decent bikes in there somewhere) I'm also waiting to see.
Carbon Process is apparently not coming this year, and the 2018 is just a refresh before they totally redesign it.
ps, the usual suspects (Pink Bike, Factory Jackson, NSMB) will normally carry the low down.
the 2018 is just a refresh before they totally redesign it.
so new linkage now then a completely new design in 2019?
Ive given up waiting for a carbon process! my 153 is 14kg in a burly build so im not too fussed tbh
just want something that has the fun of my 153 with the grip of my, (slacked out) unit
That's what I gather, personally if there had been a whiz bang new Process design shown in Austria these last few days I'd have thought we'd have heard about it, so looks like Kona rep/LBS info is correct so far.

Would you expect a rep to say anything else, regardless of what they are (or are not) launching?
is ^ carbon?
Looks like it!
Downtube guard would suggest carbon

He also told me not to bother with a 111 or a new 153 I was looking to demo!
Oh hello! I'm very happy to have my pessimism rewarded with some new bike nerdery to look at. Kona ditched their previous carbon Process efforts three years ago and it was rumoured they then used the knowledge from the Hei Hei redesign to start work on the Process. Shops will be happy, they thought this was 12 months away and they'd have another season of trying to shift a (good) but somewhat dated design.
Funnily enough I was just reading a thread on MTBR where someone mentioned a new design with a trunnion mount. There were comments about everyone being tight lipped and something was coming very shortly.
It does look like a trek, but thrilled to see a Process redesign. I love my Process 134 but was looking to Transition for my next bike.
ps, where did you get the pic?
Embargo busting pic from a pinkbike forum post
Image taken down or is it just my PC?
He also told me not to bother with a 111 or a new 153 I was looking to demo!
That does put a **slightly** different spin on it, but as a rep I'd fully expect him to be saying the new range is the best thing ever, and a 'massive improvement' over last years models (which this time last year were also the best thing ever)!
Looks like a trek tho
Got to admit it does, but with the seatstay pivot still. I can't get on board with that colour personally.
Very interested to see the 29er though. The P111 was such a unique bike, amazing fun but also really hard work. Intrigued about what improvements they have deemed necessary.
Oh that is very nice! I love my p153, could be one for next year then!
Wonder if it comes in black..
You are champing at the bit there Kimbers!
😆

Shame it looks like a Santa Cruz with that paint job, but if it's anything like the original process153 i'll probably be getting one...

Is that an army green version behind and to the right - looks nice.
The petrol blue one behind left looks ok too.
Be interesting to see reports
the green one looks to have dual crown forks so im guessing operator
I happened to be riding in Seerfaus Fiss Ladis yesterday were they apparently were having a some kind of Kona dealer launch event.
Saw plenty of those cyan carbon Process 153s, looked super nice in flesh. Seemed to work pretty nicely too based on following one good rider riding it.
P111 replacement I didn't see sadly. Was a bit miffed about that since it's a bike the release of which I've really been looking forward to. Dunno wether just didn't manage to spot it, it's not coming or if they just didn't have those available for testing.
What I did see however was an Process 167, 27.5" wheels, alu frame, grey color, Lyrik fork and coil shock. Looked very interesting and burly. Really looking forward on learning on the specs on that beast.
I'd be getting excited about the 153 29er if I were you chaps.
Alu only though...
id really have liked a carbon one
but i couldnt have afforded a carbon one, so this is probably a good thing!
Oh come on, how long does it take to write up a review from a press camp?
That Whyte getting a solid review on pinkbike, try and test one in the meantime !
That Jake is nice...I have a fairly basic Cube road bike at mo, could be tempted as I struggle to find roadie bikes I like the look of.
Maybe they've changed their minds now?

Depends on when the embargo is down until. Sometimes days, sometimes weeks.

The google translation of that site is hilarious:
I think you formulated it perfectly correctly. Here I sit, hopeless Kona fanboy, and do not get either semi or wet water running at the sight. Even the color does not feel woman-like.
A woman should radiate robustness, calmness and look raw and it will also feel when riding a bike.

Kona Dealer Agreement
2018 Product EmbargoHello Kona Dealer!
Things are a little different at Kona this year. Rather than launching all of our bikes and a new website in the summer, we will be launching bikes on Konaworld.com as they become available. We appreciate your help in keeping new models under wraps!
WHY AN EMBARGO?We are not launching our full 2018 website until bikes become available. Why?
Allowing our marketing team to launch new models with professional quality photos, videos, and technical information through media partners, dealer and consumer newsletters, and on Konaworld.com
Maintaining the value of your current year’s inventory as long as possiblePHOTOS OF NEW KONA BIKES
Please do not text people photos, do not post them to social media, do not post them to your website!
Please do not share specifications, prices, or availability dates!
OK THEN, WHEN CAN I POST PHOTOS?As an absolute guarantee, all new bikes will be on Konaworld.com by January 1, 2018. As models become available, we will make their pages live on the website. If you can see the bike on the Konaworld consumer website, it’s good to post about. Questions? Check with your rep!
With our big stories this year, some bikes will become available sooner than the end of the year. When those major campaigns go live, you are welcome to share assets as provided through our dealer newsletter.
I, THE UNDERSIGNED
I agree:NOT to share photos of new Kona models seen at the Kona Ride Launch by text, email, social media, or word of mouth.
NOT to share specifications, prices, or dates of availability of the above.
New process looks pretty cool. interested to know what price point they put it out for.
Anyone have a link to 2018 models yet?
Not sure if that's a good move by Kona or not, tbh.
They've always been one of the first to properly update the (very decent) website, but they do seem to discount old models pretty heavily, every year.
Whether the two are connected or not I don't know, but I reckon many people looking at new bikes are already fixated on a couple of favourites from those manufacturers who've sowed the seeds a bit earlier.
Did think it was odd they are still pushing their 2017 demo tour so heavily still.
Must admit it is frustrating, that long travel 29er sounds ace, I'm eyeing up the new Whyte, wanna get a demo on one, it's ugly tho !

Finally got some price info on the 153 29er and they've got it 200quid less than the 2017 650b which is nice
Cheers.
🙂
Standard Sutra looks great.
Glad they've stuck with standard QR's on the tourer.
Slightly higher gears.
Nice blue.
Matt green (please, not again...) for the LTD and an axle change.
The alloy Rove has gone flat mount for brakes but stayed with QR's.
Dunno about flat mount on a potential tourer tbh.
Lots of people online seem to love these as an AWOL type allrounder, but then again, how often do Spyre's fail?
Nice looking alloy Rove DL with Sora and guards.

Love to see a dedicated hub gear version.
The new hardtails look great.

2018 Process 134 SE
the http://centrecitycycles.com/products-page/ list here (scroll to bottom) shows it as the only 134 model
I wonder if the 153 SE will be the old (current) shape process too, replacing the precept line
Looks like that Process range is 153 only either in 29er or 27.5
Seems odd, unless they believe that the new 153 is so good that 111 & 134 are now redundant
Seems odd, unless they believe that the new 153 is so good that 111 & 134 are now redundant
Perhaps they weren't selling enough of them to make it worth the bother?
Anyway, they've left it too long now - I've ordered something else.
🙂
Im happy to hold out as It'll take me that long to get the cash together- been told itll be a couple of months!,
the 153 29er is matt black too thats me sold,
(unless my test ride on the whyte totally blows me away)
For everyone who is interested in KONA Process 153, this might be useful http://www.veb-company.si/kategorija/1258/kona-enduro.html
P153 29er looks alright.
Seems that's the only new frame though - the existing Processes appear to be unchanged.
The rest are 2017 bikes, apart from the 134se
looks like a

I didn't want to be the one to say it. At least they've kept the trademark gusseted seat tube though.
🙂
Lovely lines on the Hei Hei.
I could see one of those in my future at some point.
New Roves and Jakes released
http://www.konaworld.com/bikes_road.cfm
Like the look of the new Rove NRB but £1600 for aluminium, Tiagra and mechanical discs?
8 Rove models !
@chakaping - I picked up a bargain 2016 Hei Hei Race from Winstanleys two months ago, in effect I've turned it into the Trail version with 1 x 11 and a 120mm fork.
It's brilliant, go for it 😀

They are my LBS and I nearly got the same model a while back - but the size I wanted was sold out. Happy on my HT for now, I meant in the more distant future.
🙂
New Hei Hei is a wonderful bike. The trail spec. is quite fun 🙂
Continuing the hei hei trail love in - I picked up the 2016 trail dl in the sale - full xt, fox f+r decent hoops and it's immense as a light trail bike. added a dropper and a new front tire and its brilliant.
I was talking to a Kona dealer yesterday and as someone said above, the Process line is now split.
The old Process 134 will carry on for awhile, and effectively replaces the whole Precept line as the budget entry full sus design (price has dropped a lot compared to 2017, apparently they have a lot of old frames to shift).
The 153 gets a new design in Alu and Carbon. The carbon 'entry' model starts at just over 4k, has Eagle 12 speed and Lyriks. No frame only option in alu or carbon.
Not heard anything about the 111.
I like it, but I hate the entry model colour (black)and why in the world the Kona decals are on the top of the downtube I have no idea. You'd have to be a bike nerd to spot its a Kona.
That purple Hei Hei looks filthy beautiful.
I do like the Rove ST. Not sure I'd pony up for the LTD.
No Kona Ti hardtail in 2018? 🙁
where are the prices on that site?
There aren't any prices on the website but the bikes are starting to appear at retailers
First processes hitting the shops.
Gonna put a deposit down on a 153 29er today 😀
Very intersting, they are certainly doing their own thing geometry-wise.
Are you ordering the 29er Kimbers?
The 425mm chainstays wouldn't do it for me, but it will keep the Process character I'm sure.
yeah put a deposit down, been told early november tho!
got the low spec AL 29er, brakes look crap, sceptical of the droper but I have better stuff I can swap out wheels are a worry my st i25 650bs were heavy, the st i29 29ers are gonna intersting, and as I can only just afford the bike (was able to get a bit of a discount tho) upgrade will be a while
29er & 650 share same rear end so clearance looks tight on the 29
that said i much prefer my unit with the dropouts as far forward as possible
Im still interested in the whyte s150- ive sat on one, but not ridden it (frustratingly the 'demo' ones at King & Queen werent for riding)
It's really good that they've acknowledged the pedaling issue.
Just had a look at the spec on the basic model, not great for £3k is it. Funny that it's very similar to the £3k Tranny Sentinel build tho.
I've been riding a few long-travel 29ers lately and I've found they handle really differently depending on the wheelbase (and chainstay length in particular).
If I could only have one, I'd probably look at something with mid-length stays and long reach like the S-150 or maybe the Orbea Rallon (not ridden either though).
Or longer stays and a not-massive reach like the RocketMAX (have ridden, is superb).
That's my unsolicited two cents anyway. Me and a couple of pals have been debating this at great length as the new 29ers have been popping up.
Time to sell a kidney. Want one of the carbon ones!!!!
I think short stays with a stteper SA and long reach works
that said my Unit I only really played with the dropouts at Swinley which is very bermy, rather than steep techy stuff
Also saw the prices were similar to Transition
Glad the 29er isnt carbon yet as I dont think my kidneys are worth enough
some weird things with the US/UK prices
Process 153 CR/ DL 27.5: £6,099 / $5,999 = UK more
Process 153 CR 27.5: £4,799 / $4,799 = the same
Process 153 AL/ DL 27.5: £3,499 / $3,599 = US more
Process 153 AL 27.5: £3,099 / $2,999 = UK more
Process 153 AL/ DL 29: £3,499 / $3,599 = UK more
Process 153 AL 29: £3,099 / $2,999 = UK more
Process 165: £3,999 / $3,999 = same
Process 153 SE: £1,999 / $2,199 = US more
Process 134 SE: £1,899 / $2,099 = US more
Bikeradar page now deleted, I think the embargo was up tomorrow
but a little vid on MBR

I think short stays with a stteper SA and long reach works
For climbing I guess you mean? I'd like to try the Transition take on this with the short offset fork, which they reckon increases stability downhill too.
My experience on new-ish geometry bikes is that long reach with short stays is great - it gave more stability and speed while keeping a playful feel.
Then having longer stays as well upped the ante again with the speed, but gave more of a planted feel.
For climbing I guess you mean? I
yes but also for cornering and jumping, keeps you centred in the bike, great for berms!
