Was knocked off bike. Helmet saved me but now trash. Bike looks OK apart from front wheel out of true some scratches and left brake lever and gear paddle bent up. I have laceration to back of my head and some very nice purple bruises on my butt and left hand. Anyone had similar experience and went through legal to get compensation. If so, what was the outcome?

Do you have witnesses and the driver details?

It's why I'm in CTC for the insurance and lawyer support. Hopefully you got some details. If he didn't stop report to police.

It's worth telling the police anyway.

Report it to police, as youve been injured, and try bikeline.co.uk or cycleaid for free advice, andd get to drop in nhs centre for a checkup, and a report on your injuries

I had similar 25yrs ago. Taxi driver rear ended me at night. Bruised arse and damaged bike and kit. He was reported for due care and got found guilty at court (Pleaded guilty at last minute)
Report it to the Police and at the very least get your injuries photographed but I'd be tempted to leave it for a day or so for the bruising to come out nicely
Take pics of all your damaged kit and damage to the bike. Maybe take a pic of the scene..ideally done just after the RTC to show good bright conditions etc
Find a decent cycle specialist solicitor
Best of luck. My taxi driver was very apologetic at the time and Police turned up at the scene, saw I had various fluo bits on and my lights were still on....he changed his story when he first went to court and told his own brief that I had no lights, dressed black etc....all disproven by the Police Report

Hope you heal quickly. As has been said hope you have some witnesses as some drivers can be absolute ****! In my case I got knocked off as a bike courier in London quite a few years ago now by a builders pick up truck. Some people offered me their help as witnesses but I was in shock and just wanted to get the hell out of there asap. The builder had parked his truck around the corner so I didn't get his plate number and he gave me his phone number. Luckily I only had cuts and bruises and the bike only had a few scratches but my Goretex coat and bibs were toast. Rang up after I found out how much it was all going to cost and the guy on the other end of the phone denied all knowledge of it. ๐Ÿ˜
